Contract

Heading down the street, on that sultry summer night. Never down the main streets, always in the shadows. Why was the meeting always held in places like this. Knowing any guards would not be looking for a little scrap of a kid tonight. For the boss man had told them that the sneakiest rogue would be his downfall this very night.1

Creepy, his men thought among each other. How could the sneakiest rogue get pass them? Though none saw the child walk right by them. The boss man knew, he knew who was after her, and that information alone would be his death. And the cool riverfront was quiet for a change, no parties going on tonight for there was a storm brewing just across the river.2

So she knew that tonight was going to be her only attempt. Getting on his boat was easy for one with her skills, for this rogue knew her business. With a knife to his neck, and her voice dripping like poison, he dared not tell her a lie, and so she got that what she was after, the name of her next victim. Slipping a rope around his body, and then so no one else would know, she eased his body down over the rail and slipped it in the river.3

Now, for the one who sent him, she thought with a wicked grin...4

With document in hand, a name on her lips she enters the hotel in a black flowing gown. Goes to the clerk and with a wink and smile gets the hotel room number and his spare key. With her dark glasses on, and a scarf over her hair, bag in hand, up the stairs she goes. At the top of the stairs, she finds a shadow and changes into her clothes from her bag.5

Using the key, and wire in hand, she enters the room, going to the body on the bed, she finds she is to late. For the one who ordered her demise was already dead. This has her worried and confused, for another was now in the game. Who could this new player be? 6

What did he or she want? Now this rogue was worrying, and that did not set right with her. So, she slipped out like she planned and went to her hide out.7

Not wasting time, she did as she always did, make notes .... write down the facts. This way nothing is over looked. For even the smallest detail can mean something. Knowing that another was in the game, she knew she had to move fast. For since he got her target, he might be after her.8

Knowing that she was no longer alone and going through all her notes from all her cases, she found what she was looking for. Everything pointed the her secret partner, to his lair she went that day. Needing the proof that he was doing as promise.9

Entering the lair late at night, not worried or scared, with a smile on her lips. He was there wanting for her, knowing what she would ask, holding the document in his hands.10

She sat and they talked, she got the document, he received his payment as always. This arrangement has lasted longer than many would have believe. A rogue and a Lord, pact made long ago, still carried even now, and he protects her still.
