Don't Answer The Door - Ch. 28

Nina kept looking straight ahead, her eyes red from all the crying. Eva followed Nina's gaze and her eyes fell on it, their worse fear at the moment.2

"Shit!" Eva screamed.3

"What?!" Alex asked forcefully, unaware at what they were looking at. 4

Eva pointed out of the windshield, and Alex's eyes gazed at the smoke coming out from under the hood.5

"Damn it!" He screamed.6

"Stop the car damn it." Alex said, wanting to check it out.7

"But my.. my dad will die!" Nina screamed through tears. 8

She was crying and trembling because she was afraid the car would break down before they reach the hospital and get her father to safety.9

"Stop the damn car! This won't take too long." Alex said, afraid the damage would get worse if they continue to drive.10

Nina maneuvered the car to the shoulder of the road and hesitantly slowed down, finally pulling the car to a halt. Alex jumped out of the back seat and ran to the front of the car. Nina kept her hands on the wheel as Eva stared at Alex through the windshield. 11

Alex pulled the hood up and was overcome by a dark thick smoke. Eva heard Alex coughing, and she too got out of the car to try to help him. She went to the front and stood there, watching Alex examine the car. She walked around and then stopped dead in her track.12

"Uh oh.." She said, her voice carrying off to no where.13

Alex peered at Eva from around the hood. He had a confused look on his face, along with black smoke clogging his pores. 14

"What's wrong now?" Alex asked Eva, with a deep, frustrated sigh.15

"How about you come and look for yourself?" Eva said, frustrated at Alex's frustration. 16

She didn't understand why he was so angry, after all, they were all going through this at the same time. She felt that he had no reason to be complaining. The only person who had the right to scream and give frustrated sighs was Nina, who was still sitting still in the car.17

Alex slammed the front hood down and wiped his face. He walked to Eva and stood next to her.18

"What?" He said, not knowing what to look for.19

Eva kicked the back tire so she could get Alex's attention. He looked down at the tire and anger and frustration grew. The air in the tire was gone, they had a flat tire and a dying man in the back seat of a broken down car. 20

"Nina! Do you have any tools or jack in the back trunk?" Alex asked, looking down at Nina through the side window. 21

Nina turned her head to the side and looked at Alex.22

"Why? I don't know!" She said, getting worried as she looked back to check on her father. 23

Nina could hear her father's breathing slow down. His breaths were long and harsh. She jumped out of the car, wanting to help. 24

After wiping the tears off of her face, she took out a key so she could unlock the trunk. Her hand was shaking severely and she wasn't able to put the key in correctly. She looked at Alex and he understood. He grabbed the keys from her and quickly opened the trunk.25

"Holy shit!" He screamed, jumping back and stumbling down onto the rocky ground.26

Nina also jumped back, for she was overcome with a rotten smell. It was so hideous that it burned her nose. Eva ran to the back trunk and looked at Nina and Alex, who seemed stunned. She looked into the trunk and placed her hand onto her mouth, covering her nose at the same time. Eva's jaw dropped as she noticed what was in the trunk.27

"Oh God! What the hell?!" She screamed.28

Alex stood up quickly and wrapped his arms around Eva's waist. He pulled her back and she was screaming, tears spilling out from her eyes.29

"Oh my God!" Eva kept repeating, her eyes bulging out in horror.30

"Don't look at it!" Alex screamed to Eva, and to Nina at the same time. 31

He covered Eva's eyes with his hand and he began to stare into the trunk, not taking his own advice.32

His jaw dropped open, and his lower lip quivered quickly as his eyes stung with tears of horror. Eva got out of his grasp and continued to stare into the trunk, unable to take her eyes off of what she saw. Nina stood there, unable to speak or turn her head.33

"Who could do something like this?!" Nina finally asked, screaming into the air. 34

"Cage..." Alex said slowly as he continued to stare.35

Eva took in the sight of the decapitated bodies. Every body part was amputated from the rest of it's form, and they were swimming in blood which was slowly dripping onto the ground. 36

"One.. Two.. Three.. Four..." Eva counted slowly every hand she saw. 37

"Four hands... two bodies!" She said, realizing there were two dead bodies in the trunk of Nina's car.38

Alex slowly walked to the trunk and placed his hand on the forehead of a decapitated head. 39

"It's still warm." He paused, "And so is the blood."  he said as his hand fell into some of the blood.40

"This just happened recently, not too long ago." He said, as he wiped his bloody hand on his shirt, leaving a bloody hand print in visible view.41

"Who are they?" Eva asked, her voice trailing off.42

Nina, Eva, and Alex stood there in shock as they stared at the bodies, and tried hard to think of a reasonable explanation. 43

"Who are they?" Alex repeated Eva's question. 44

Alex knew if they could answer that question, they could figure out what was going on. They could figure out why there were two bodies in the trunk, why the bodies were cut up. 45

Alex closed his eyes tightly and tried to think hard, but he couldn't think straight with the image of the bodies imprinted into his brain. 46
