AHH!!! What a great day it WOULD be to spend on the beach. Emphasis on the would, due to the fact that it is so crowded! The sun is out and the water is cool. Typical beach of Hawaii. But, it's winter break and that means: tourist season--families take a vacation to a tropical place to escape the hazardous colds of the freezing weather. THANK YOU, MOTHER NATURE! Although, besides the whole crowd population doubling its size everyday, there are advantages that we, the locals, like to take in. Boy Watching, except with the guys, its girl watching.1
They all come in different shapes and sizes. It is usually rated from nerdy to hunky, puny-wimpy to hottie-must-see. But what is with the speedos?!? I mean, if your body doesn't work out from head to toes, why make it worse by adding those horrid little rubberized undies? It's almost as worst and nasty as the guy who played BORAT! Ick! Besides the whole unsightly underwear fiasco, they also take up so much pictures. I mean, you've seen it once, you've seen all of them. Right? I guess they've never seen anything more beautiful that they are just completely over-whelmed. How little do they know that my home is not the only tourist sights around here. There IS more! Gosh! Newbies-without-a-clue, I'd usually criticize.2
There I was, sitting quietly under the sun, judging how others looked until I noticed something under the coconut tree 30 feet from my left side. Two figures making out. Eww! Get a room! I thought before my eyes widened when I finally caught a glimpse of who the two figures was.3
Clobelle? Cedrick?!? Both of them?!?!? Together? Since when?!?!?! I started to question. Clobelle's one of my older siblings. She's a year or two older (I lost track since there was fourteen of us in one big family). She's usually the braniac, knowing right from wrong, precise, smarty-pants! Clobelle is labelized as one of the perfect children of my whole family, except me. Her type of guys were....well, like her. Perfect, cute, funny, and GENIUSES! But Cedrick Johnson? How did she end up with him? I tried to look away, but the temptation of watching them was just calling me.4
Who's Cedrick Johnson? He is the MAN! He is the guy that every girl (besides me) swoon over, talk about, fantasize and dream of. He is the man that every guy envies, befriends--knowing that they have no chance against him, considering he's huge! Plus, Cedrick is one of Hawaii's best surfers. He made the State Regions.5
Although, I have to admit to my hidden girl hormones, he is fine! His broad shoulders, light brown eyes, hard-rock abs, perfect tan, and straight black hair made him look like a Greek god! But from Hawaii with the brown tan and kahkii pants.6
"CHRISTINA!!" called out Samantha Hibbins, snapping her fingers in front of my face, trying to catch my attention.7
Samantha Hibbins is my best friend since the third grade, when she was the new girl on the Big Island. She and her family moved from Minnesota and have lived here until now. But, she used to be a bit chubbier than usual. Now, since her mother sent herto one of those fat camps that confined them unil they change their whole body shape, Sam's gone from a size 14 to a size 6 in three months. Amazing! I know!8
"What? What? What's wrong?" I said as I heard her scream my name, snapping back out of my gazement and paid full attention to her. Although, I just can't stop thinking about it.9
"You were looking at your sister, weren't you?" she said as she looked at the direction I had my attention to earlier. Her blue eyes gazed down at me as she returned her look.10
"No, no. I wasn't..." my voice trailed off, hard to lie to her. She knew everything about me. I mean, come on, we are best friends. Once she gave me her stare of unconvinced, I couldn't help but come out. "Okay I was! But...how?" I felt my arm moving, pointing toward the direction of my sister and her beau. "How could he be with...her?" my voice almost sound disgusted.11
"They've been together since November, when you left. You missed out on a lot, girl! That's what you get for leaving!" she told me off. Which is true. I left for few weeks to my grandmother's and visited another friend of mine, due to things I shouldn't have done. I was stunned to hear how long they've been together.12
"Well, it's weird to see my sister and....him, together. I...I guess I have to deal with it." I sighed.13
"We ALL have to. Your brothers are not having a good time with it as well. But hey, they're boys." she laughed as she tried to cheer me up.14
As Sam tried to talk to me, my mind wondered off into the sunlight and ocean. It was beautiful, breath taking, even if I lived here all my life. The rays lingered onto the surface of the blue ocean, revealing an vast colorful abstract reflection of the light sky. Suddenly, I noticed myself stand up and walking toward the ocean as if my body just attracted to it. I dove in, the water cool all over my skin. I lifted my head up toward the surface to see Sam looking at me. I guess she didn't understand why I got in all of the sudden for she looked at me confused. I didn't get it either.15
I took a deep breath, closed my eyes and submerged back down the ocean. My eyes fluttered open, seeing things clearly under water. I swam farther, my legs and arms pushed my whole body down until I reached the sandy ground of the ocean floor. It's miraculous that I am able to hold my breath for thirty minutes. I'm able to do this because I used to swim out far enough to get beautiful seashells that not most people could find. After a few minutes, I head back up to the surface taking in another huge gulp of breath. 16
I looked towards the beach, I was completely far away that the tourists became little ants on the beach. Heading back, I noticed something shining. It reflected the light of the sun that it caught my attention. Curiously, I swam back down, grabbing the shiny object. The sand was soft as a cloud (not that I know how soft a cloud is). It was a necklace with the charm of a crescent moon.17
As I walked back to my spot where Sam was, I sat down gazing at the texture of the charm. It was beautiful. I noticed Sam looking over my shoulder, wondering what it was.18
"What did you find?" she asked me, moving her head from side to side, trying to catch a glimpse of what it was. I showed to her.19
"It's...a necklace." I simply said. I hung it around my neck, fitted perfectly. Sam told me it was luck but it seems that there is something behind this. What could it be?20
The sun was setting and everyone headed back to their hotel rooms. Sam, Clobelle, and Cedrick joined me as we all looked at my finding. The two love birds were distracting though, kissy-faces exchanges. I rolled my eyes as we watched the setting of the sun. The sky turned into a multiple shades of red, orange, and pink. As the sun went down the moon shone brightly as the stars appeared like diamonds on the black blanket of the night sky.21
"Well, I got to go. See you tomorrow." both Sam and Cedrick said as they got up, brushed off their clothes and headed home. Clobelle blew him a goodbye kiss and helped me up. It was all normal until we got into the house where we ended up looking at each other and the jewelry as we heard our parents both shout out "THE NECKLACE!" and came rushing to our side.
