Mourningside Hts

I said hello to the moon as sunset fell over the giant cement stairway of Mourningside heights asked it where its been and what its seen while it was gone it whispered back to me with a tone of discontent1

about its travels and all the familiar faces that it had noticed along the way and i heard tales of love and broken hearts, tales of the dangerous creatures waiting in the dark2

i listened to stories about life and death and the struggle to find the balance between wrong and right.3

He spoke of wars and conflict over seas, and bitter tales of tragedy4

a young girl dieing in her mothers arms after a stray bullet pierced her chest. a newly born child infected with her mothers mistakes5

a man desperate for cash laying out on the streets still hoping someone cares and girls looking for love in dark alleys underneath these jagged peaks they're hoping for the best in all the worst places as the hope drips away from there stubborn faces. He spoke with a soft grumble of all these evil things with a look on his face that only evil brings6

but then i saw flicker in both sides of his cheeks and a smile appeared,(i hadn't smiled for weeks)7

He laughed and told me about a romeo and Juliet who found love inside all the broken torment8

He spoke happily about hero's who rescue and the people they save 9

and the thanks that they give for another chance at the day10

he found happiness in an unborn child and a mothers love that had started to grow. He saw hope inside an aids patient not waiting to die but waiting to live again. Saw enough love in a single kiss to wipe away all the evil and hate in this world. He gave me hope in a smile that we'd all be OK, that one day it will all make sense that one day i will know why i am here and know why i have done the things i do. A means to an end with trails leading off in all different directions. A means to a love that can withstand the cruelty and injustice of the dark world we find ourselves waking to every morning or mid afternoon when we turn the Television on and we see rape, murder, war, death, disease, guns, lies, blood and hate.sprawling hate, clawing hate, fighting hate, fighting to cover our eyes from love and life and true happiness. trying to put fear into our stain glass souls. with a shot of cruelty in ever word we speak to the homeless as we shout get a job bum.To ever corner bound girl or unwed mother we call a whore in the back of our mind... to every gay man while we whisper faggot as he walks past with his head held high... to every aids victim we spit on with the disinterested looks we carry so dear to ourselves. We carry it to keep us safe for fear of infection. Not the infection of disease but the infection that gives us the ability to care for more than ourselves and our personal agenda's.The infection that shouts out from the lowest depths of our souls. It shouts, to love to hope to breath to live to depend to hold to kiss to need to save another human being. The need for more than just fast cars a nice job and 2.5 kids. The need for a connection with this world the need for a connection to others. The need to live to the fullest everyday without an ounce of regret.11

I closed my eyes and took a breath, then thought of blue ocean waves crashing into the shoreline outside of the church where my grandfather's body had laid decorated in flowers, then peace came to my head.12

I opened my eyes and wiped away a tear from my sunken cheek and then looked up to the falling sky and said goodbye to the moon as the sun scaled its way up the cold cement walls of Mourningside heights.13

This just didn't work for me. The formatting was frustrating, the material failed to capture me, and I wanted to know the basic message you were trying to communicate. All in all, I'm going to have to pan this. I wish you the best anyway.

Lovely, breath-taking piece. I loved the constant flow. I wish you had taken care of all those punctuation errors and put the capital letters at the right places. But anyways, this piece touched my heart truly...

    Well written and well said.
    Best of luck!
