I knew how this would end: I would either kill him (so to speak), or leave him forever, thus shattering my forever still heart. Even when I was human, dysfunction hung over my head. What a sick, sadistic game, life and death, and the in-between like me.
"I love you. Please know that," I whispered in his ear as he gazed into forever, entranced by the stars. In a strange way, he was born to be a vampire. Entrenched within his soul there was something deep and unyeilding that could hold up for an eternity. Nevertheless, I would not damn him to this miserable life.
"I would be willing to bet my life that I love you more." Oh the irony in his words. But I could not laugh. A violet tinted tear leaked from my cerulian eye. "What's wrong, love?" he asked. Ignorance is bliss.
"I have to leave you tonight. It's for your own good. Do not try to make me stay. It will only torture me further."
Alarm perturbed the soothing green of his eyes in a way that haunted me. How much did he care? "W-why?"
"I can't subject myself to watch you die and go on forever with out you. I'm forcing myself to move on. That, and I cannot kill you."
"You wouldn't have to kill me. Would you? Would it be death if I stayed with you in eternity, forever loving you? Think of all that we could be, please just try?"
"Could be? That is far to idealistic to ever be. You would get tired of me. You would soon hate me for turning you into a monster. It has happened before. It happened to me."
"Please. I have nothing to lose. I love you more than anything. Love is not a strong enough word."
"You are young. Foolish. If I were to bite you- no. I simply will not. I care too much about you."
"If you cared at all for me you would let me be with you. Forever."
Selfishness clouded my clarity. I imagined being in his arms forevermore, killing the lonely nights, having someone to talk to, someone to love.
"Are you sure," I leaned close to his ear and whispered like the most shameful and coveted secret. I had been fooled, just as I was perpetually fooling him. "I am endlessly sure."
My hands foun the side of his face, and I gently turned him to me. If I had a heart that could beat, it would be racing through my chest, but alas, I did not. His lips and mine, but blushing pilgrims, passionately embracing, yet soft and somewhat unsure. My lips eventually subdued beneath him, and it was as if his was saying to me, "Yes, I'm sure."
Winding a path to his throbbing pulse, I bared my monster's fangs. "Now and forever," I cooed as he drew in one last breath. I sank my teeth in to his veins, and made him mine forever.
