Aeroview High: Prologue

Brooke rushed into Derek's house. She opened the door and ran past the living room and kitchen and she passed Derek's mom. She hurried up the steps, walked into Derek's room, and meanwhile, she covered her eyes with her hands and wept. “D-Derek!” she cried as she arrived into his room. Derek, who had no idea that Brooke was coming, jumped in fear from his chair. He realized it was Brooke and he got up from his chair rapidly and ran over to her. He did not wonder how she got inside, but instead he gave her a big hug. They both slowly walked towards the bed and sat on top of it.1

Derek frowned at the sight of her. “Brooke,” he began, “What... What's wrong?” Unfortunately she didn't answer back. Brooke sniffed, the sound muffled by her hands that covered her face. “Brooke! Please tell me... What's wrong?!” shouted Derek.2

“My parents Derek! My parents!” she said as she took deep breaths for air. 3

Derek stopped and looked down at his knees. He knew that Brooke's parents always fought and Brooke hated it. He was speechless and had no idea what to say. He looked up at the ceiling as he held back his tears. Brooke removed her hands from her face and looked up at Derek, her now red eyes locked into his. Nothing was said. Derek could tell just by the look on Brooke's eyes that this argument was different, it was serious. He looked at her as if he were helpless. “Brooke..” he talked slowly. “I'm not a psychologist, I don't know what to say or do.. But I want you to know that if you need a shoulder to cry on.. I'm right here.”4

She looked at him once more directly in the eye. Without saying a word she dug her face into his chest and cried. Derek's mom who was at the door unnoticed, decided to leave. She thought it was best for them to be alone. Derek, who was still speechless, wrapped his arm around Brooke's back. “It's going to be OK,” he whispered.5

Brooke started to grind her teeth and released herself from Derek's grip. She stood up and still clenched her fists tightly, her cheeks now red as she started deep into Derek's eyes. “It's not alright Derek! It's not OK! Nothing is going to be alright ever again! Nothing Derek! Nothing!” she got louder and louder each word. “You don't understand! You don't know what it's like!”6

Derek was in awe. Never has he seen Brooke like this. He was stunned and all he could do was look at Brooke. A tear went down Derek's face. He never wanted to see Brooke like this and now that it is happening he is ashamed that he does not know how to comfort her. “Brooke.. I.. I..”7

“What Derek. What?!” she shouted as she flailed her arms around.8

“Brooke.. please relax..”9

“Don't tell me to relax!” she screamed as she stomped across his room. She banged her fist on the dresser and several items fell off from it. She knelt down and rested her body across the floor. She picked up one of Derek's shirts and covered her face with it. She just now realized what locomotion she has caused. She felt like a jerk and was too embarrassed to take the shirt off of her face. “Oh my God..” she said calmly. “I.. I'm a monster..” she took the shirt off of her face and got up so that she was sitting down on the floor.10

“Don't say that Brooke.. You're not a mon-”11

“Yes I am Derek! Look at me!” Brooke got up fast and stood right in front of Derek. “Look what I'm doing! You have done nothing to me except be nice and I'm taking out all of my anger on you! You must hate me..”12

“Brooke that's not true! I can never hate yo-”13

“Stop Derek! Stop with the lies! I'm sure you want me out of here. I'll just be leaving .Goodbye Derek, I'm sorry for everything.. I'm sorry for bothering you with my life story. I know you probably don't care,” she began to frown. “I don't blame you if you hate me..” Brooke walked out of Derek's room. Derek quickly reached for her arm to hold her back. She swung her arm to break free.14

“Brooke please wait!” shouted Derek several times. He realized it was a waste of his breath as he got no reply. He heard the footsteps of Brooke as she walked down the stairs and he heard the front door closing.
