Two Shadows

I have two shadows,1

One of dark and black,2

Another of flesh and skin,3

It is different to my dark shadow,4

It gazes at me with hazel eyes,5

It follows me everywhere I go,6

It whispers to me in lessons,7

It touches my hair at break,8

When I lie to sleep it curls beside me,9

Wherever I go, it goes too,10

My first shadow is stuck to my feet,11

My second appears to join my shoulders,12

Sometimes it puts it’s arms around me,13

My first shadow cannot speak, nor touch my hand,14

My second cannot vanish as the first may when the sun sinks,15

It stays beside me, even in darkness,16

Sometimes it seems more loyal, yet I know that may not be the case,17

They walk together by my side, in harmony,18

Sometimes it seems they must fight for my favour,19

But they are too different to favour,20

I’d be lonely without my shadows,21

I know one is me, but the other is not,22

The other is something else,23

The other should not be here with me,24

Though it seems as a guardian angel.25

I have two shadows.26

But one is my own reflection, and one is my other soul’s ghost.27
