When Savannah came to, she vaguely wondered where she was, and what she as doing there...and why her head was throbbing so viciously. Then she remembered. "God damn you Alex," she muttered.1
"I'd say 'God damn you' is about right," said a voice behind her. Danny.2
"Yeah, isn't this the guy who just hours before your little incident last night said he loved you?!" Uh-oh, he was angry.3
"Where am I?"4
"At my house," Danny said.5
"What time is it?"6
"About ten."7
"FUCK! Danny!! Why didn't you take me home?!" Savannah exclaimed as she sat up quickly. Too quickly. A wave of dizziness passed over her and she sank back on the couch.8
"You think I would take you home? Jesus Savvy, I know your dad's a drunk and I know he hits you. Are you forgetting that we dated? Yeah-fucking-right I'd take you home. I actually care, unlike your stupid boyfriend. How long has this been going on?"9
"None of your business, take me home."10
"It is my business! I meant what I said last night when I asked you out. Savvy, I...I love you."11
Savannah gasped. Her mouth, which had been wide open, pulled up in a gentle, but incredulous, smile. "Are you ser-" she started to say, but didn't get to finish. Danny pulled her into a long, slow kiss that told Savannah all she needed to know. His fingers caressed her hair, and she ran her fingers through his. God, how she had always loved Danny's kisses. He always knew what was right for the moment...gentle, passionate, whatever the mood called for. No matter what, they always left her speechless.12
He separated from her and cradled her chin in his hand. He locked his deep green eyes with hers. "Darlin', I want you to swear to me that you are done with that bastard Alex. Promise me you will stay away from him. He doesn't deserve you. You need someone who loves you for who you are, not what you can give them."13
"Ok, I promise."14
Danny smiled and kissed her again. Savannah giggled, then Danny suddenly picked her up and carried her outside. "Ah! Danny, put me down!" she half yelled/laughed. He sat her in the passenger seat of the truck. "There, you're down."15
"Where we goin'?" Savannah asked as she grinned mischieviously.16
"Anywhere...Everywhere." 17
Danny got in and they drove off into the sun, dust and gravel flying behind them.18
