Mr. Wednesday Keeps a Promise

She wrung from him a promise, the only one he’d ever made.1

Exacted under a strict and solemn oath to Never Bind Her Feet Again.2

Her hands, she allowed because she could not hope to fight him, but she one day wanted to walk away.3

“Mr. Wednesday,” she had said, “swear to me.  By the tree and the runes and your good eye.”4

He swore, solemnly and truthfully, that he would never bind her feet with rope or cord of any kind.5

The next day, he came in with a hammer and broke her feet.  Crushed the bones until her screaming stopped and she released him from his word.  Then he set her bones and bound them together with medical gauze.  She lay in the dark with feverish pain and he stood over her and was pleased.6

Mr. Wednesday never broke a promise. 7

Thanks for the comments, they are really appreciated! I'm glad you thought Mr. Wednesday was interesting! I don't know how the girl came to be in his charge, that's part of what I'm exploring with him. Thanks again!

Well, there you have it. The next in the series, I see. Very nice. I mean...the writing, not what happened. I find myself wanting to help her again. Wishing there was something I could do. You have created a very evil character in Mr. Wednesday, very noteworthy. I do have a question. How did the girl find herself under his control? Well-writen. I look forward to reading more.
