She Stands Alone - Chapter 4

Marie picked up her phone after she had awakened from what seemed like the worst night ever.  She hadn't slept much last night.  When she did manage to drift off for a little while, she always woke up screaming.  Marie felt so sick, she really didn't know what she was going to do.  She couldn't tell her parents what had happened until she told Michael.1

As Marie began to dial his number, she felt extremely tense.  Her eyes began to fill with tears as she heard his voice.2

"Hello?"3

"Hey, Michael?. It's Marie."4

Even though he was so glad it was her his reply was, "What do you want, I don't want anything to do with you.  Can't you see that?"5

By now Marie couldn't help it.  She had lost it.  6

"Michael I know, but will you at least listen to me?  I really need to talk to you!'7

"Why should I Marie?  How do I know you will tell me the truth, you've done nothing but lie to me so far."8

Finally she couldn't take it any longer.  She was going to tell him.9

"I'm going to tell you the truth because I love you Michael, I have loved you since the day we met and that's why I never told you before what really happened. I just let you believe what everyone else had told you.  I didn't think you would believe me."10

By this time Michael wanted to cry too because he was so in love with her and the fact still stood that he had proposed to her and he did want to marry her.  But what was he supposed to do now?  He had been nothing but an ass to her.  He couldn't just take her in his arms and tell her that everything was going to be okay.  He had to start by listening to her.11

"Marie, tell me.  Whatever it is I promise to give you the benefit of the doubt.  No matter what I will listen and I do love you.  I always will.  So what is it you wanted to tell me?"12
