Okonkwo walked into the Psychiatrist's office and sat down on a large, brown chair. He felt it sinking slightly, but didn't pay much mind to it. Behind a desk made from dark wood, his eyes met those of a middle-aged woman with pale skin, thin lips, and hair that was brown with streaks of silver and gray. She coughed a couple times, then began speaking.
"Hello...Okom...Okonkwo, is it? I've been told you are having an issue sleeping."
Okonkwo nodded his head and replied with a deep voice, "Yeah. I don't know why, though. This is a first."
"Has anything out of the ordinary happened of late? Any unusual events, like the death of a relative, perhaps?" She asked as she pulled out a pad of paper and a black pen, getting ready to take notes behind her desk.
After thinking for a minute, Okonkwo responded. "Nothing like that. The only things that happened were the locusts came, we celebrated, I killed my adopted son-"
"I'm sorry, you did what?" she broke in, a stupefied look on her face.
"I killed my adopted son. As it is said, it's better to die with honor than live with shame. I wasn't about to let myself look weak. Afterall, I have one of the highest titles in my land."
The psychiatrist thought about the kindest way to respond to his horrible reply. "So...you fear being thought of as weak?" Taking Okonkwo's silence as a direct hit, so she continued. "Perhaps this fear originates from a family member? Maybe a brother, or sister? Perhaps even your mother or father?"
"My father was a disgrace. He never claimed a title. He was lazy and a debtor. We grew up poor and never had food. Every cowry that came into his hand, he would spend on palm wine for everyone."
"So, you say you fear being like your father?" The Psychiatrist questioned him, not glancing from her notes.
This inquiry hit dead on, agrivating Okonkwo deeply. "I d-don't fear it," he studdered angrily. "Fe-fear is for the w-weak!" At this, Okonkwo jumped out of his chair, picked it up, threw it at the psychiatrist, then flew over the desk. The Psychiatrist shreiked in surprise and pain as she felt him begin to attack her. He bloodied her lip in several places and blackened both of her eyes. Then, he begain punching her in her stomach and causing her to cough and spew blood as her ribs began cracking and stabbing her innards repeatedly. After only a minute or so, the security guards finally came in and pulled Okonkwo off the horribly beaten woman.
"I do not fear anything, woman!" Okonkwo shouted at her as the multiple guards attempted to dragg him out of the office.
"Stop resisting, or I will be forced to use my tazer," warned one of the men.
After Okonkwo ignored the guard, he felt a volt of electricity surge through his body, causing him to lose control over his movements, bowels, and bladder.
"Come quietly, dammit!"
Once Okonkwo realized he lost, he reached his hand to his neck and pulled the jugular vein from his own throat. He smiled softly in accomplishment as he felt the heat of his body gush from his throat. As the men around him screamed like little girls, he thought to himself, A real man isn't afraid of blood...
Author notes
This was written for my English class as a dialogue. I think it came out pretty good, in my honest opinion *Totally not trying to sound show-offy*. If you have read the book Things Fall Apart, tell me if you think Okonkwo's character flowed smoothly. Afterall, he does have anger issues! x]
