Cell Demons

Chapter 1~1

It was night and one of the guards came in to feed the Demons.2

Chell had been waiting for another meal since breakfast. She picked up the scraps of food they were fed and ate them hastily. "You better eat, to get your strength up. I heard them talking and they said they're moving us into the fields to collect fruits and vegetables tomorrow. In case you forgot its about 40 degrees out there...." 3

Shin had left his food next to Chell and sat against the other wall.4

"...." He let out a sigh and shut his eyes. 5

"Don't blame me if you don't even live that long then. I'm leaving it over here in case you get hungry." She picked up the broken plate and placed it over on a hay pile on the side of the cell. Shin didn't reply.6

"This.." Shin sighed and looked at the cell's wooden door for a moment before closing his eyes again. 7

Chell walked over to him and hugged him. It was her way of keeping warm at night. Shin blinked for a moment then frowned before keeping her close.8

"If you die it's my fault." He sighed leaving his jacket on her then playing with his collar before curling up to go to sleep on a hay pile. 9

Chell squatted down and pulled the jacket around her. "Th-thanks..."10

"its fine" Shin replied. He was actually boiling anyway. He yawned and curled up frowning.11

Chell lent against the wall and closed her eyes. "Best if we get as much sleep as we can." Shin mumbled a reply leaning back.12

When they were sleeping one of the guards came in to give Chell a 'treatment' like they did most nights. Chell woke up at his touch and ran to the other side of the room, eyes wide. "Don't take me back there!" She screamed at him. The guard grabbed her and pulled her out the room, shutting it behind him.13

Shin opened one eye pretending to sleep while they took Chell.14

He looked at the small chock he'd place that had kept the door open just slightly. He opened it and vanished down the hall after carefully removing it. "This has gone on long enough.15

"That's far enough. Girlie will come back just fine....If you co-operate." One of the guards said to Shin. The collar around his neck knocked him out and the guard dragged him back into the cell, making sure the door was shut properly this time.16

Shin moaned quietly as a voice in his head kept trying to wake him. He could hear Chell and kicked himself mentally trying to do something that would even help slightly.17

Chell was shoved back into the cell a few hours later. She walked to the corner of the room and curled up. Her eyes were blank and colourless and like always she remembered nothing of what happened, other then she didn't want to go back there again.19

"Chell..." Shin murmered, eyes still closed. he moved into a sitting position and looked appologeticly at her. He'd never done it before.20

"The Master cares for us....He nurtures us....In hope we will be free." Chell murmured. In hope we will be free obviously meaning, in hope we will die.21

Shin stood up and his mind vanished from his body involuntarily.22

"What the hell." He murmured standing in front of the Master. He turned his back.23

Chell's body dropped to the ground on its left. Her eyes were still wide open but she didn't seem awake or even alive.24

Somehow the Master sent Shin's mind back to his body. Chell, still just lay there lifeless.25

"Darn it." Shin cursed and sat down. 26

Chapter 2~27

A few hours later, Chell returned to her normal self. She got up and yawned, waiting for breakfast. Then it was pushed through the slot in the cell's door.28

Shin didn't say anything at all and once again left his breakfast alone. His food was piling up.29

Chell ate like normal and sent her plate back through the flap in the door. Someone took it back to the kitchen. This time instead of leaving it she took Shin's food and ate it too. "I'm not letting anymore go to waste."30

"good," was all Shin said and groaned with the effort of leaning against the wall. it was at least more active than usual.31

Chell sent all his previous meals through the door. Suddenly someone spoke. "Whoever isn't eatin` will get punished in dere, we need strong Demons to work . So, who be it."32

"Me..." Chell lied.33

"Ah the lil` lass. Well I wouldn't blame ye with all the 'treatments' ye been getting.-" He laughed, evilly. "-Either way ye have to be punished. I know....Double th` work today...After th` field, ye be goin` into the kitchen to help cook meals."34

"Don't cover for me," Shin said, loud enough for the man to hear him. "I'll work double or even triple if I have to. But I sure ain't eating something I'm allergic to." He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. "It was bad enough watching sis die from it..."35

"Dinna be coverin` for what the lass has don`." The man replied. "Now, com` out an` do ye work." The man opened to door to reveal that he was the chief. A skinny, bald old man with an evil grin.36

The two guards at the door chained Chell and Shin's ankles together and pulled them out the door by tugging roughly on Chell's arm. The old man laughed. "Today ye be workin` out with th` garden." 37

Shin still had his eyes shut and didn't ever open them after last night.38

They were out in the hot sun and the old man had gone back to the kitchen, while the two guards remained. One gave them an order. "Alright, filth, get to work by pulling those carrots out the ground first." He said with despise in his voice. Chell bent down and grabbed a carrot with both hands she pulled and as it came out she fell on her back. "Hey! Think more when you pull them. I don't need them damaged!" He yelled at her. "Sorry" she replied and her ears drooped. She was more likely to get hurt than the carrots.40

Shin noticed she needed help. He helped her pull some out and kept working on his own, eyes still shut. He was relaying something in his head. It had been talking to him the whole night and got his attention.41

The basket piled up and when they were done they got another order. "Go pick the strawberries, filth." That was every demon's nickname in this place. Chell walked over to the strawberry patch. It was shady at least, but with the amount of strawberries there was, made it look like they would be there all day. Chell began to pick. Every time the guards looked away she ate one or two of them. They were her favourite fruit, though she was never fed them in her scraps of meals.42

Shin had stayed where he was and was moving his finger over the dirt. More carrots appeared where he'd pulled the others out and then he moved to the strawberry patch. As far as they knew no demon could use their powers here. 43

Chell noticed he did something to the dirt. She turned to him with a worried look. "You know you shouldn't do that when we're in a place you could easily get caught in, Shin." 44

The guard caught her talking to him. "Hey, filth, unless you want to pick watermelons too, I suggest you keep your mouth shut."45

Shin didn't look at her, instead he pointed to his collar.46

"I can't use power here remember."47

Chell turned back to her work and pulled off a few strawberries, placing them in her basket. "Liar," she murmured. 48

"It isn't me doing it." Shin replied truthfully and in his head murmured thank you. He placed his strawberries in his basket and in hers they multiplied until her basket was full. He kept pulling his eyes shut. 49

Chapter 3~50

It was afternoon and they had put their baskets in the kitchen. "Eh, lass. It's `bout time for ye to help me make dinna." The Old Man greeted Chell. "By th` way me name be Greg. Nice ta meet ya." Chell felt taken aback. The mean, grumpy Old Man she knew earlier, turned out to be quiet nice. "Ch-Chell," she replied and shook his hand. Greg obviously had a reputation around the guards and other 'staff' at the Demon jail, so he was only nice when he was alone with the Demons.51

Shin hadn't opened his eyes once but still had a clear image of the Old Man. He stood where he was beside Chell, thinking and talking to the person in his mind.52

"Eh, boy, ye want to help with th` cookin`?" Greg asked turning to Shin.53

Shin nodded,he kept his face blank and fidgeted for a moment before laughing. a small mouse slipped out his shirt but he kept his eyes shut as it crawled into his pocket and stopped moving54

"I be guessin` thats ye pet. Well ye best be keepin` it away from me food, if ya know whats good for ya." Greg handed Chell and Shin an apron and got a pot ready. Chell and Shin put the aprons on and waited for an order. 55

"Ok, we be makin` soup today. Boy, hand me some hot water from the kettle. Girl, hand me some of those carrots ye picked earlier."56

Shin grabbed the water and handed it to Greg. he felt the mouse go to sleep and winced shoving his hand in his pocket as he rubbed the kettle over his arm. He turned and opened his eyes when they were looking the other way. He stared at his hand then closed his eyes going back to Greg.57

Chell grabbed a handful of the carrots from the basket and handed them to Greg. 58

"I thanks ye kiddies." Greg told them as he poured the water in and chopped the carrots. "Tell ye what. If ye kiddies sit down and listen to me story I'll do the rest of th` cookin`, eh?" 59

Chell knelt down on the ground in the corner of the room and signaled for Shin to come and sit. Shin didn't see the signal but sat anyway. he was playing with something shiny in his fingers. it was long and bent easily.60

Time passed as Greg told the two Demons about his daughter that used to work with him. He said that a year ago she had an accident in the kitchen when one of the Demon boys was taunting her she grabbed a knife to scare him but it didn't end well at all. He mentioned that he wouldn't hold a grudged against Demons but he would always be cautious around them.61

Once Greg had finished cooking he grabbed the pot and put it on the bench and sat down. "Ye kiddies feed the guards and then give the scraps to th`other ones. I need me time alone." Telling the story had obviously hurt him, but Chell and Shin knew he had kept it bottled up too long. Chell stood up and picked up the pot, bringing it into the room with a really long table, seated with guards. 62

Shin left something next to Greg then he stopped. "where did....Kita..." he paused and then walked out eyes still shut.63

Greg picked it up and placed it in his pocket. "I'll look at it later." He said to himself.64

Shin had never talked to Greg before and ran to catch up with Chell he tripped once and stood up hearing a guard laugh. he ignored the guard as he walked past to Chell. The guard grabbed his arms and lent over whispered something in his ear. He bit his lip and then walked to Chell as the guard went back to his food. By the time he reached her he'd resumed a calm face. 65

Chell heard some guards complain that a Demon helped cook it when she had finished serving. She ignored it and went into the cell area with what was left in the pot.66

Shin took the scraps from her smiling. He moved as a guard passed and kept smiling. He was good at fake smiling and tilted his head to the side, as the guards fist missed his ear. Grumbling the guard walked off.67

"I'll take the scraps around ok?" Shin told Chell and headed toward the other cells. He was thinking, and once again the person was talking to him. "Thanks for being my eyes" He said softly out loud, though he'd meant to say it in his head.68

Chell followed him. "Ok, I'm just happy to see you smile." She smiled to him and added quietly. "But you gotta stop talking to youself....."69

"If she only knew" Shin thought to himself and finished handing out the scraps. He slid extra out of his pockets for the others then started walking back to their cell.70

Chell began to looks at the notes on the doors of Cell Three and Two as they passed. Her and Shin were in Cell One. 71

The note on Cell one read: 72

Seira.
Female.
18.
Bad Tempered.73

That seemed to be the only Demon in Cell Three at the time.74

Shin watched the girl, Seira, sitting in the back of Cell three
"Hey, you ok?" He asked, noticing she didn't eat. 75

Seira stuck her head up. "Don't talk to me." She snapped. She picked up her knife and slid it down the wall. Blood smeared in a straight line. She Obviously had enough of this place already.76

Shin sighed. He hadn't thought someone who resembled the demon he used to be was even still alive around here. Absentmindedly he stole the keys to the wine locker from the guard who had been complaining about the food. 'Whooops...Guess old habits die hard...' He thought dryly. 77

Chell turned her head and stared at the girl in the Cell with her tail wagging. Her fox instincts must have kicked in, for she looked slightly threatening. 78

"Calm down Chell..." Shin said, looking slightly depressed. He was reflecting. Yeah stupid for someone who lost their will a long time ago but still... 79

Shin let out a longer, less humor filled sigh and sat next to the wall. "We can sit out when were giving food to the others and I don't plan on wagging my tail and just going back." 80

Chell didn't hear a thing he said, she was too lost in her own world. She looked down and the lock and began to pick it with her claws, making a whining sound as she did. 81

Seira snorted at Chell and turned her head. "Pathetic." She said quietly and she fiddled boredly with her knife, ignoring the food. 82

Chell stared at Seira then at Shin.83

Shin sighed, "Don't say it reminds you of someone..." He remembered she always compared him to someone or something. 84

Chell turned back to the lock.85

"Chell you already opened it" Shin told her, right into her ear leaning over. He flicked the door and with his foot made sure it didn't creak. He sighed. "If you wanted it open why not say so?" He asked, swinging the keys around in his hand.86

Chell started to walk into the Cell.87

"Chell" Shin pulled her back out and shut the door keeping it a tiny bit open as a guard walked past. "That was too bloody close for my liking." He muttered.88

Chell made sure the guard was gone and with her tail still wagging, she turned and ran into the Cell and pounced on Seira. She rubbed her head against Seira's arm and sniffed around her, a lot like an annoying house dog.89

Seira grabbed Chell and put her knife to her throat. "Don't touch me!" She commanded and threw Chell across the room. "Don't do that again unless you want the full treatment. I've killed before, and I'll do it again."90

Chell hated being treated that way. Her ears sparked up and so did her tail. She started to growl aggressively.91

Shin watched then turned leaning against the wall. He could see where this was going. He sighed and played music over in his head tapping his foot slightly. He walked down the hall to talk to a suspicious guard. "Someones saying they'd rather die then bow in your presence" Shin made it sound as if he was mocking this 'someone' and got a laugh out of the guard before returning to the empty hall's best view point. "Chell knock it off" He called. It sounded like someone was with him. he couldn't stifle a laugh fast enough. It surely wasn't a guard. That made his mood sour.92

For once Chell listened to Shin, she stood up and walked back into the hall. She forgot to look at Cell two and just stomped back to Cell one to rest.93

Seira snorted stubbornly and turned away. 94

Shin left Seira's door open purpose. As he walked back he opened his eyes for a split second. "Damn." He said, wincing and leaned on the wall closing them again. He counted to three then went back with Chell. 'Still...i said i couldn't,' he told the voice. 95

Once Chell got inside, she slumped down on her pile of hay and closed her eyes. "Dumb cat..." She muttered and closed her eyes, falling asleep.96

Seira closed her eyes, ignoring Chell. 'She'll be dead soon,' she told herself. 97

Shin whispered into Cell Three through a pipe in Cell One. "You only just worked that out?" He still kept his eyes shut and then yelped as he absently jabbed himself with a pin. "This place ...isn't much different from where i used to be.." 98

Chapter 4~99

Chell woke up the next day and yawned. It was still early, she knew that because normally she would wake up to breakfast. Chell's ears perked up, she could sense some new additions to the 'jail'. She walked over to the door and peered through the gap. A Male Demon was being moved into Cell Two, the one on her left. Next came a small girl. It looked like she was being moved into Cell Three. Chell only hoped Seira didn't rip her apart on her first day here.100


Shin sat back and kept his eyes shut.
Any new editions weren't much of an exciting thing for him, unless it was Kai, then he'd take interest.
"Chell what do they look like?" He asked, may as well know even if its not relevant.101

"They look......scary..." Chell stupidly observed. 102

"Chell 'they look scary'? and I suppose you don't?" Shin rolled his eyes.103

"Well....no..." Chell looked funny at him. 104

Shin continued to roll his eyes at her.105

Over in Cell Three Seira stared coldly at Aura. "You'd better stay quiet.. If you know what's good for you." She greeted her.106

Aura growled at Seira.107

Seira laughed and turned away from Aura. "Watch it, if you want to live around here."108

¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤109

Shin sat and wondered. He thought Chell would be better off with Seira than Aura. Chell, Seira and Leon... Now that would be interesting. He stood up as a guard walked past and unlocked the door, whispering something to the guard he saw the dumb sod grinning.110

'Moron,' he thought as he went to the Garden, extra work would clear his head.111

The man, Leon sat in Cell Two thinking and glared at a guard that entered his Cell. He obviously wasn't a social Demon, like most in this place. 112

"Your working in the Garden on your first day now." The guard said in a sarcastically kind voice and pulled him outside. 113

Leon sat in the garden and sighed contentedly, it was very peaceful there.114

Shin kept talking to the person who'd been sending him messages. 115

"Hey new kid!" One of the guards yelled at Leon.116

"Mist...er.." Shin pointed to a full box of carrots and vegetables. "Those are his..these are mine." He tilted his head to the side avoiding a punch then went back to work. "If you daydream I'm gonna have to cover for ya..." He looked at the box, if he hadn't said that he'd be able to daydream but now he had to start again.117

Leon began to help Shin.118

Shin kept his eyes shut as always and rubbed his wrist for a second. "Ober." He said and more of the carrots appeared within his reach. He kept collecting. "Don't tell anyone...ok?" He knew all to well that no demon should even have power left while here. "Its not my own..." 119

"You can trust me to keep it a secret." Leon said seriously.120

"Good. Thanks." Shin finished and sat. "Since I did that I can't open my eyes." 121


"What do you mean?" Leon asked, interested.122


"....I can't see out of them right now.." Shin replied, sorta avoiding the question. He leaned back.123


"When are you gonna be able to see again." Leon bombarded him with more questions.124


Shin shrugged. "Its been ever since I've heard Kain's voice in my head so i dunno." He remembered dodging the guards arm. "I seem to be fine without my sight for now."125


Leon nodded. "Okay." 126

"Alright, filth. Back in your Hell Holes!" The guard yelled at Leon and Shin. He grabbed their arms and took them back inside to their correct Cells.127

Chell sat in Cell One whining. "What happened to breakfast!" She complained to herself. 129
