Dealing With Me

I thumped the pencil against my notebook, keeping in time with the music that played on the stereo. I was suffering from severe writer's block but was still trying to push through it. I rested my head against the table and breathed out heavily. I felt the pencil slip from my hand, my reflexes kicked in and I moved to catch it. I breathed out heavily when I looked up and found it floating in mid air.1

"How can I help you two?" I asked not bothering to look up.2

"We were just wondering..." started the girl.3

"when exactly you were planning on relieving us from our misery." finished her twin. I looked up and raised a brow at the two of them,"Excuse me?" 4

"Are you slow?"the girl asked. I looked up at her. My second favourite female character, Casey. Long black hair, deep rich brown eyes and coffee au lait coloured skin. Here she was standing in front of me giving me words. Why was I surprised, I don't know. I had, after all, made her smart mouthed. She walked over to the desk and sat on the end. She was wearing her hair down, not her usual and kept it in one. She was also wearing a short jeans pants and a halter back shirt, something I'd never imagine her in. Not even to save her life. I looked over at her brother. Jevaint, he had on his usual, blue jeans and a black t-shirt, but he had blue streaks in his hair.5

'Dear God my characters are rebelling.' I thought to myself. 6

"No we aren't rebelling we just are expressing ourselves the way we want to be and not how YOU painted us." Jevaint said mischievously. I groaned, I had forgotten that he could read minds. Nothing got past him even if he never said anything about it.7

"What do you want me to do?" I asked looking up at them. Casey turned to me,"How about finishing our story?"8

"I will eventually. Just as soon as I get back my notebook." I groaned, lying on the desk again. I didn't need to look to know she was levitating something in my room. 9

"You lost the note book?" Jevaint asked. I glared at him,"You're the one with the mind reading ability, why not just find out for yourself instead of asking."10

"Why did you give it to him and not me?" Casey asked. 11

"Cause you wouldn't be you if I did." I said closing my note book realizing that this was going to be a lengthy conversation. She looked at me,"So you're saying that you gave it to him to protect me from...myself?" 12

"Yes." 13

"And why would she need protecting from herself?" Jevaint asked, standing over me. He was making me uncomfortable, but I said nothing. Casey was looking at me too. No, more like glaring.14

"She has trust issues. She'd have used the telepathy to her advantage," I mumbled.15

"You mean, you made me have trust issues, cause I don't." Casey growled. I raised a brow,"So now you're saying I don't know you?" 16

Casey gave a don't careish shrug. I leaned back in the chair. This was unbelievable. I turned to Jevaint,"She obviously has problems with the way I made her and it doesn't take an idiot to know that that is only half of the problem."17

"Why does she have to be the one to save me. It makes me look weak."18

I raised my eyebrows and rolled my eyes,"So you would have wanted that you save her?"
"Yes." he said nodding. 19

"And you Casey would have wanted me to give you the telepathy instead of telekinesis?" I continued to ask. She simply nodded. There was a knock on my door. Sighing I got up and answered it. I could have kicked myself when I found my boyfriend standing outside my bed room door. A heavy backpack on his back and a mischievous grin on his face. I had forgotten about our study date. I opened the door to let him in.
"I'm in the middle of something." I warned him when he laid on my bed. He raised his hands defensively and took a notebook out of his bag. I groaned when I saw the green cover staring up at me. It was my notebook. The story of Enchanted Flames, Casey and Jevaint's story. Sighing heavily, I took it from him and walked back to my desk. The two of them were sitting on my desk top, hands folded against their chest as they waited for my response. I opened the book to the last page. The words of to be continued engraved on the bottom along with my initials. 20

"I'm not changing the plot nor am I changing who you are. If you can't accept who you are then you can't accept me. If you can't accept me then why are you in my story?"21

They looked at each other then back at me,"But no one said anything about not accepting who you are, we were talking about us."22

"You were talking about me. I created you, I made you," pointing to Casey,"everything that I am. My flaws, my interests, my beliefs, my attitudes are you."23

"I made you, Jevaint, everything of someone I hold dear to me." I glanced over my shoulder at my boyfriend who was watching me intently. I looked back at Jevaint. He had followed my gaze, I'm more certain he read my thoughts but yet he kept his mouth shut and said nothing. I breathed out, thinking of my next words.24

"With both your flaws and differences you got along very well from the very beginning. Had I done what you both want now would the outcome have been the same?"25

Jevaint said nothing but stared out the window. I knew I was not going to get anything out of him. He knew my true motives. Casey shook her head.
"Thank you. Now if you don't mind I have work to do." I turned away from them and walked towards the bed. I shook my head trying to imagine the outcome of the story had I fulfilled their wants. I slapped myself mentally. I needed to get it into my head that I couldn't put every part of my life into fiction. Casey was me. Jevaint was...I looked across at my boyfriend as I sat on the end of my bed.26

"You had another talk with your characters again?" he asked me coolly. I nodded. Casey and Jevaint worked together. I took that as the sign that we were going to work together.

Author notes

Ok I hope this is what you wanted. My characters are all nurtured with some part of me. So I just thought I'd put this together and see how this goes. I wrote this straight out of my head. So if it's choppy I apologise. So what do you think?

    Entertaining.

I realize this was for a contest, but I found it entertaining. I wish you much success in the contest. I thought about entering it, but I was not in the right frame for a fresh write.

I like the idea that her characters are rebelling, wanted to rewrite the story. That's cute.

I found some punctuation problems. Caught most of them, I think. See what you think.

    p1 pencil (slip) from

p5 I looked over at her brother(.) Jevaint, he had on his usual(,) blue jeans and a black t-shirt(, but) he had[Strictly my opinion, but I think it reads better this way.]

    p14 (herself?") Jevaint asked(,) standing

    p14 uncomfortable(,) but I

    p14 No, more like glaring.

        I know what you mean.

I have a story I've been working with for three years. People still find problems with it. Now I'm taking a class and the assignment will be making it publishable.

I think you did a good job. It was very realistic and meaningful, interesting at the same time. It wasn't choppy. Next time, instead of using "breathed out" you might wanna use "exhaled" instead: "I exhaled heavily" I think it sounds much better, but its just a suggestion. Over all, good job and thank you for entering.
