The Eternal Proposal3

The sky hung gray and oppressive above New Orleans that day, the sun struggling to leak through to give some sort of hope. But why it would try and do so is beyond me, to waste its glory on a town so hopeless with a scarlet brand upon their names, and I will forever bare this shame of my predecessors, because I am not like them… I am a vampire. Twenty-One, full lips, hazel eyes, pale skin, the blood of my ancestors, the English, Dutch, Irish, and German long gone from me, except for the features. I am only shunned from others by my 'devilish' garb, dark greens, and blacks, medieval. I cannot help my taste; my parents would approve, for they were eternal ones as well, but would not turn me, because I am something that must never be turned. I am a Neteru, a guardian of the light. I say I am a vampire to add emphasis to my constant fluctuant changes. Foolish love turned me this way… All I sought as a warrior is now buried in blood stricken sands of time I will never again see. His name was Eli, his abhorrent measures to keep me with him because he was the one that had turned me… Bastard, I ended up pregnant in my fluctuations and lost the child due to his roulette with the covenant of our kind in the depths of hell. I will never forgive him. 4

Currently my eyes are fixed on the man in front of me, my brown curls cascading down my shoulders, my Isis blade at my side, my dress short, but light, a dark green with thin straps, an Emerald hanging from a silver chain around my neck. Bold? Yes, but I trusted myself enough to wear it, and if I ran into Eli, getting my throat would be harder. Personally I would slit his jugular with my blade of light, before bowing down to the ignorant chauvinist. 5

The young man in front of me was attractive, grey eyes, pale skin, but blood still ran through him, his warmth radiating, his blood’s sweet scent consuming me in a need to feed. His Jugular vein catching my eye ever so often…6

“And so I said to myself, why a beautiful girl like you didn’t have a guy was a crime all in itself.” 7

I smiled, disregarding his cheesy come-ons with a smirk and flutter of my eyelashes emphatically in understanding. 8

“I know,” I said smoothly my words wrapping around his mind like a sweet but vicious vise. By the look in his eyes I knew I had him in the palm of my hand. 9

“Come with me,” I said grabbing his hand, swaying my hips. He obliged, following me out into the privacy of the night and a glorious full moon. 10

“I'm not who you think I am,” I said breathlessly. I had given him an alias so Eli wouldn’t be able to track me so easily if he were around; because I was getting stronger without a doubt. He kissed me deep, muttering sweet nothings in my ear, and offering promises he didn’t intend to keep. “Come on,” He whispered, running his hands a little too low. I looked into his eyes again, and sorrow filled me as the demon inside took over, my incisors inching more by the second to the point where I couldn't hide it anymore… “W…What are you?” He queried seeming a little frightened. “I'm so sorry,” I whispered aching for him, but something inside me couldn't do it…My whole body lurched with hunger until I wretched crimson. “Go!” I cried, his blood so pungent it sang in my ears, his heartbeat thumping in rhythm. “No, you're ill I should- “Go or I'll kill you, just GO!” He tore into the night, his cloak whipping behind him, I preyed on the next human I saw in a distance, but I sensed it wasn’t human, it was another vampire, it was Eli, and I was in his forceful grip before I knew what was happening. “My poor child, Tis’ always these circumstances we find ourselves in…” “I d…don’t need you, you bastard!” His gaze saddened. “You hurt me deeply my love, but I will forgive you…” He arched his neck back for me to feed… Blood dribbling down my chin, “No,” I choked. He grabbed me and pulled me on him, pressing my lips against his throat. I wouldn't do it. “Feed,” He purred, running his fingers through my hair… My scent of Neteru intoxicating him; I bit him hard, and he jerked a little at the viciousness of my siphoning. “Easy girl, easy,” I said not another word as I fell into oblivion, pleasure warming me to the core. When I was done, I felt his tongue on my throat ready to bite, and I shoved him back with newfound strength. “You don't take that much and not give back.” He said awestruck. “I hate you!” I spat angrily. “I know you do now,” He admitted. “But you will love me again… Now come on, give me what I need.” “Just because I'm a- Suddenly I felt a searing pain at my throat, the silver burning me. “God woman, are you crazy!?” He ripped it off of me, as I let out a shattering scream. The silver had burnt his fingers generously in the attempt to save me. I let him kiss my neck, healing my burns… And he bit me softly. “Son of a- The last thing I recall is falling into his arms, fluctuating again, unable to hold myself conscious any longer…11

My eyes opened to his lair of cold stone, and ancient tapestries, candlelight flickering, shadows dancing eerily along the walls. He was beside me, his arms wrapped around me in a loving embrace. He looked into my eyes. “Oh my love, I thought I had lost you.” He said softly. “I’m here,” I said cuddling up next to him. My voice rang in my head, what are you doing? I didn’t know, I felt like a fool. I shrugged away from him as much as I could in the confines of our eternal bed. He insisted on us sleeping together, he felt safer that way, and in a sense so did I. “My love, what is wrong?” He kissed my cheek, and but I turned away. “You don't love me.” I hissed. “To you I'm just your slave.” “So you see a ring around your finger?” He queried. “You aren't my wife, I just turned you.” “Bit there's still that bond.” “I love you Angelique, you are my light, and if it worries you…” I felt his hand take mine, as he slid a ring on my finger. I looked at him, looked at him, disbelief written boldly all over my face. “Eli, I… I can't…” “Please Mon Ange…” And before I even knew what I was doing… “Yes,” I said, “I will be your eternal bride forever.”12
