Two Weeks Before Graduation. (Part 7)

1

“Things don’t look too good,” Mr. Scott began to say, “last year you were taken out of school for a semester and home schooled, correct?” 2

“Yeah what’s the problem?” Michelle asked, confused 3

"Well see, now you’re behind one semester.” 4

"What you’re insane!”
5

“I'm sorry, I wish I would’ve known before” 6

“But you said that anything done in the program would be counted as high school credit!” 7

"Or so I thought, but it’s not a big deal, really, you can sign up for a semester of adult school and you’ll pull through I know you will.”
8

“Not a big deal? How can you say it’s not a big deal?” 9

"I'm sorry to be the one to have to break it to you so late.” 10

”I guess it’s better now than the night of graduation.” And with that she got up to leave.
11

Michelle walked out of his office with tears in her eyes. The day went on and no one knew nor asked about it. Chris and Michelle decided to have a late lunch together after their last classes and she told him. 12

”So you're not graduating with us?” 13

”No, he didn’t even tell me until today, had I known I would’ve done my best I mean I could’ve gone to adult school at night or something to catch up but I figured since he said since it was in the district it’d be counted. I don’t know what I'm going to do now.”
14

“Can you at least walk with us? I mean come on he wont let you not walk with us, your cap and gown are already paid for and everything.” 15

”I don’t think so, I mean I've heard of people who didn’t have enough credits ask to walk with their class but weren’t able to, so what makes me any different?” 16

”Its going to be okay Michelle, I'm standing by your side I just want you to know that.” 17

”You seemed pretty pissed off before, what made you change your mind?” She asked him, hoping to get the answer she was looking for.
18

“It’s been 8 years, how can I give that up?” He replied. 19

And with that they both stood up and decided to go sit under the tree waiting for the busses to show up. Eventually all their friends were there, but she didn’t want to tell anyone, and no one could blame her either. She began to think, and that’s when her mind went wild ‘Well, if I'm not graduating, what's the point of me staying here now?’ and decided that the next day would be her last day at school.
20

She went home and told her parents, seems like lately she’s had a lot to share with them. 21

”So what's the next step?” Her father asked her.
22

“I'm thinking of either going to adult school for a semester or getting my GED.” 23

”Its up to you now, its your life and whatever decisions you make today you will have to live with tomorrow, just remember that.”
24

How can she forget? Her life, in her eyes, seems to be falling apart by the minute and yet she has no one to turn to. 25

Nice informative piece, my AP daughter! Does this mean you're graduating this year from highschool? First moral of the story- before you home school your children, check the transferability of the credits! A parental mistake here too- they should have more input into their daughter's life rather than put it all on her- decisions made that young in life rarely ae the wisest! Me- I almost did bother to show up to my graduation- my parents were dead already- but I showed up at the last second- then fell off the podium! 'I sign I'm going to fall flat on my face in life' I told myself!

Sweetheart, I think you are getting this story to move along very well. This did seem a little slower than the others, but if it's a story pusher, and yes it makes sense to me, then it works well. I think you are going in a good direction (especially since I think I know where this is going) to build up to certain things and points in the story. I think that you are doing great with this and I really can't wait to see the next part. It's all so exciting!

    Hugs
    Mom
