The Typical Plunge

This is not a fairy tale and this is not historical documentation...1

I am here to tell you about the way of life in just another city whithin just another state of the entire whole of the United States. It is evident that drugs have integrated themselves so deeply and strongly in our society that it has entrenched itself into the lives of so many.2

The average high school or college student will often times compliment their Friday and Saturday nights with a gram of marijuana to go along with their twelve pack of beer. The average white collar pencil pusher working behind a desk from nine to five might spice their life with a few lines of cocaine. Then their's the ever popular raver who wants to enjoy their techno with a tab of ecstacy. And of course, lets not forget the stereotypical junkie that has to get their fix of meth, crank, or heroine on a daily basis.3

But I'm here to share a story about the gateway drug of marijuana. This drug can stem from many different things that may lead to enjoyment, deception, paranoia, psychosis, and of couse addiction. So let me begin.4

You may call me Jason...5

I, Jason, stepped into the drug world in a different way much like any other user. I was just a young kid with the world ahead of me. It was fall 2005 and I was beginning my first quarter in college. Much like my father, I had hungered to join a fraternity. And the minute I stepped on campus I rushed the fraternity I had kept my eye for a the duration of my senior year in high school. We'll call this fraternity Beta Upsilon Delta.6

At first when I had entered college, I had no problems balancing the academic and social aspects. But over time this steadily became a problem. I eventually became a regular drinker at the age of 18. Soon after I picked up the habbit of cigarette smoking... because who could enjoy a cold beer without a cigarette?7

Fast forwarding a bit... it is now the beginnig of the second year of college in fall 2006... I now had a good paying job, while still in school, that allowed me to move out of my parents home and into a house with three other fraternity brothers. This quickly became the party house for the rest of the brothers. And in time, I eventually picked up a new habbit introduced by a handful of these fraternity brothers... recreational marijuana use.8

Two of my roomates were regular potheads, and the other was our dealer... how could this be more perfect? Well eventually it progressed from recreational use to habitual use... and so began the long and dark road which deterred me from the future I had hoped and dreamed for.9

In time I lost that good paying job and was forced to move back home. And since the habbit did not cease there, I lost focus and eventually dropped out of school. I then made some new friends as well as reconnected with some old ones from the early high school days; all of them shared the same opinion about marijuana as I did. And so I found a group of people that I would regularly use with.10
