Four Way Wind (poetry)

2

There is a place upon a mountaintop where I stand, silent and still
when the north wind blows, its southern breast glows.3

There is a place upon a mountaintop where I pray.
It is warm and bends into the night I often face into.4

When the south wind blows, its northern phallus-height sways.5

There is a place upon a mountaintop where I kiss my lover.
It is the place I often raise my arms and sing upon.6

When the east wind blows, its western slope grasps my shadow.7

There is a place upon a mountaintop.
It is the place I often bend down upon and pray outward bound.8

When the west wind blows, its eastern slope grasps my heart.9

10

This is the place I am, the place I shall die,
the same place I was born.11

12

I am alive, 13

am four way wind.

Author notes

To the Apache, The North Wind is change, for it brings the seasons in their order, winter when the Earth gives nurture for new life to come in the Spring. The South Wind is the fertile warmth and moisture of the Earth, for it brings the seasons also in their order, Spring when the children of Earth rise into the sun which powers all the winds. The West Wind is the youth and energy of the great oceans beyond the land, for it bring moisture of the western deep seas and rolls down mountains gaining the pollen of the land ... it is the giver of life. The East wind brings difficulty and challenges and helps complete the circle of winds of the North, South and West, for it the child of these and pulls the cold, vast eastern ranges and the oceans beyond as a challenge to innocence and softness of new and learning life. It is wisdom. The North Wind flows into the South Wind and forms a tumultuous flower blossom which is kissed from the West Wind and challenged from the East Wind. The winds are change, fertility, youth and wisdom. These must all exist within the influence of all the others.
