The Hitchhiker (chapter 10)

I woke up hearing the voices1

of my children screaming at eachother.2

The babysitter was still sound asleep on the couch.3

I looked at my watch.4

It was 7:30 in the morning.5

I was starting to wonder why the6

children were acting the way they were.7

Maybe they figured I wasn't home yet.8

I threw the blanket on the floor,9

slowly got up off the chair,10

and headed toward the kitchen.11

I filled the coffee pot12

and turned it on.13

I went upstairs to the bedrooms.14

Stephanie, my oldest daughter,15

was screaming at her younger siblings.16

Cynthia: "What's going on?"17

Stephanie: "I'm tired, Robin and Bret keep talking."18

Cynthia: "You can go into my room19

if you think you can get some peace."20

Stephanie: "They wouldn't stay in their beds21

long enough for me to get back to sleep."22

Cynthia: "Yawn."23

Stephanie: "What time did you get24

home last night?"25

Cynthia: "It doesn't matter what time I got home."26

Robin: "Can we have breakfast now?"27

Cynthia: "It's too early in the morning28

for you to have breakfast."29

Bret: "I'm hungry."30

Cynthia: "You can have breakfast in a31

couple more hours."32

Stephanie: "Yawn, I'm not hungry yet anyway."33

Cynthia: "Robin and Bret, you two go back34

to your own rooms and go back to bed."35

Stephanie: "Thanks mom."36

Cynthia: "You're welcome."37

Robin and Bret went back to thier rooms38

and went back to bed.39

I went back downstairs, to the kitchen,40

to get my coffee.41
