(#4 - Ull Ashford)1

Ashford shakes his head, trying to clear his jumbled thoughts and focus on the math test that lay before him. But how could he do that when she sat in front of him? It was almost bitterly unfair how their algebra teacher had seated them - he couldn't concentrate, not when he could see the black curls in her hair. (And, of course, she was five-seven compared to his five-four and blocking the blackboard. But that was beside the point.) He wished he could find the key that would unlock her thoughts, pick through them, and find the love that he knew was there. Or hoped. Even the tiniest prickling of interest would be nice.2

Concentrate. '(5x)/2^2=y^5-64: Solve for 'y."3

Y = Ainslie James.... What the-?4

Running his fingers through his sunbleached hair, Ashford curses his reputation as 'the new kid.'5

"What are you looking at?" Ainslie hisses, turning around in her chair, her voice low enough that the math teacher wouldn't hear her... Her green eyes met his blue ones.6

(#1 - Ainslie James)8

Her eyes soften as she meets Ull's. Turning back to her paper, Ainslie chews the tip of her pencil thoughtfully, unable to concentrate on the problems as well. To see the hurt look in the new kid's eyes... She mentally slapped herself. You can't care about people. Not now. Shoving her hair behind her ears, Ainslie focuses on the next problem:9

4x-2/3^2=y.10

Y = ?11

Ummm, Ainslie thought, her thoughts beginning to drift away - towards those glowing blue eyes... (And speaking of love problems, when was Payton going to notice July? He was so busy pining after Ainslie...)12

No. You can't care. Never care. The only people who knew were July and Payton - and they didn't even know everything.13

How could she care if she was a [insert anything here]?14

Author notes

Ok, so in the '[insert anything here]' I was thinking you could enter some sort of occupation or something. I guess it doesn't work for much, but if you're thinking fantasy it could work for super-hero (cliche I know) or witch or if not a detective (also cliche) or a spy (same here).

Aaaand... I should probably get back to my algebra homework now. No wonder it's all over the story... Maybe my conscience is trying to tell me something?
