Don't Answer The Door - Ch. 27

"Oh God, Please don't take my father..." Alex heard Nina say from the back, praying to God as much as she could.



Alex began to see life around him. He saw a couple walking slowly, holding hands. When he saw them, he looked at Eva and noticed that she saw them too. Eva put her head down, and buried her face into her hands. Alex felt guilty for putting Eva through this, and he began to hate himself even more.

"Eva, please speak to me." Alex pleaded with her.

"What is there to talk about, Alex? Just drive damn it. We wouldn't want Jon to die, now would we?" Eva said, then there was a long pause.

"It will be more blood on your hands." She said quietly while looking out the window.

Alex stopped the car suddenly, and they all flew forward, but held on tightly to not get hurt. He turned to Eva and stared at her, eyes filled with rage.

"What the fuck did you just say?" He asked, trying to stay calm, yet having no such luck.

Eva was surprised, but only let it show for a second. She put on a face, a face that showed she didn't care what's so ever.



"Drive!" Nina screamed from the back.

"Damn it Alex, get the fuck up. I'm driving!" Nina shouted, angry, seeing no progress.

She gently put her fathers head on the seat, and got out of the car. She went to the front drivers door and opened it, waiting for Alex to get out. Hesitantly, he got out and sat in the back, trying not to get any blood on him.

Nina sat in, and pressed her foot hard against the pedal. The car jumped forward, and they drove along. Eva looked at Nina's knuckles. They were so white because she was squeezing the steering wheel tightly, and tears continued to fall, an everlasting water fall.

Eva showed some sympathy and rested her hand on Nina's shoulder. Nina looked at her, and tried to smile, but she couldn't do it.

"Eva, I don't know what the hell your problem is. I'm sorry I kissed her, okay? You seemed fine with it." Alex said, from the back seat.

Eva turned around suddenly, a change in her face from the normal blank expression.

"I WAS FINE WITH IT?!" She began shouting at Alex.

"I was never fine with it! Who told you that?! Alex, I love -" Eva stopped herself.



It hit Eva hard that she loved Alex. She didn't know why but she felt it. This wasn't the way she wanted to tell him.

"I loved the fact that we're together, but you know my past, Alex. You know that you're the only one in my life. I forgave you because I cared." She said, and began sobbing.



"I forgave you, but I hate you for hurting me." She said, between sobs.



"Your past? Your past?! Your parents weren't brutally murdered by your own uncle!" Alex said, after a long pause.



He bit his lower lip, and his eyes closed tightly. He made a mistake.



"I'm so sorry, Eva. I'm sorry..." Alex said, reaching forward to place his hand on Eva's shoulder.

He was surprised to see that Eva did not brush it away. He tightened his grasp, trying to let her know he cares about her through his touch.

"I'm sorry." He repeated, shame mixed with hurt was revealed in his voice.

Eva sighed and turned around in her seat. She slumped down, trying to get away from everything.

"How did all of this happen Alex, how did this happen..." She said quietly, her voice quieter than a hushed whisper.

Alex stopped and thought hard to what she was asking, and he sighed when he remembered the image of his past.

"It all started when my mom and sister were found murdered in my basement, Eva. I told you what happened, How they were hung by a noose, but they were brutally murdered. There wasn't anything I could do about it. I had just gotten in a fight with my mother after she told me something." Alex paused.

He held his breath, and tried hard not to let his tears fall from his green eyes.

"I never got to apologize." He said, and then the tears began running.

"Oh Alex, I'm so sorry!" Eva said, remembering all of this. She turned around and tried to comfort him as best as she could.

"Oh God..." Nina said, quietly.

Eva and Alex looked at Nina to see what's wrong. Eva noticed that Nina was shaking uncontrollably, her grasp on the steering wheel was loosening as her arms went limp. Her hands fell off the wheel and they slumped down on her thighs.

"Nina!" Eva screamed.

Eva jumped up, and tried to calm down. She took hold of the steering wheel and tried to steer.

"What the hell is going on?!" Alex screamed from the back, feeling afraid.

The car had swerved to the right suddenly, and Eva was unable to control the car from her angle.

"Nina! Steer damn it!" She screamed, a lump of fear growing in the pits of her stomach.



"You're going to kill us all!" Alex screamed from the back, unable to do anything.

Nina shook her head quickly, and her hands shot up to the wheel. She grabbed hold of it tightly, as she began swaying back and forth, still trembling. Eva could see her bottom lip shaking, and tears flowing quickly down her cheek.

"Nina?" Eva asked, quietly this time.

There was no response from Nina. Eva revealed a confused look at her face, but she couldn't do anything about it. She turned and sat straight in her seat and looked ahead of her.

Eva was trying to calm down, but didn't do so well. They were all close to death too many times. Eva was afraid that she was going to die soon, and in her heart and gut,

she knew she was right.



She could see Alex's reflection from in the windshield. He was sitting still, a glazed look taking over his eyes. Eva felt worried about everything, and didn't know what to do. Her thoughts were quickly interrupted by a small, quiet whisper.

"Oh God, Oh God, Oh God..." Nina began whispering.

"Nina?! What's wrong?!" Eva screamed, as she noticed Nina's face turned pale, an unrecognizable expression revealed on her face.

Eva looked at Alex, and with her eyes, she begged Alex to help her calm Nina down.



"Nina?.." Alex asked quietly, in a calm soothing voice.
