The sweet far thing- Preview (Fanfic)

Gemma Christina Doyle was quite an extraordinary girl. People usually never crossed paths with her but she surely was a fairly disputed young woman. In the year that had passed- Gemma had not been what people usually would call normal. Many of her so-called unnormal actions had been connected with the mysterious death of her mother and the secrets she’d had during the days she had been alive. And the cause of Gemma’s close investigations and her so to say abnormality was because of her great eagerness to find out what really happened to her mother. Gemma’s mother had not died of natural causes she had been murdered. 1

The fog lay as a thick barrier around the woods. Many of the trees were indistinguishable as I slowly started to pace up the steep slope near the little pond close by the Academy. Nearly a thousand questions were rushing through my mind as I gently placed the brown- blue whistle between my lips.
Kartrik had given it to me a couple of days ago, so that I always would blow the little whistle when I needed him the most. An extremely good present, I thought. I needed him almost all the time.
The thing that I liked about Kartrik was the fact that I always could discuss different things with him. He would never be as petty and malevolent as Felicity and he would always say something compared to the gingerly, offhand Ann.
The whistle gave a high and nasal squeak and as if he had appeared out of nowhere the young man, most gracefully walked up the slippery slope.
“Anything new?” He asked when he reached me.
I shrugged feebly and gave him a steady look.
“Soo...what do you want then? Have you recreated the Order yet? Have you entered the realms?”
So many questions. So goddamed many question.
I stared at the ground and did not say anything for quite a while.
“I have entered the realms...” I looked up and hesitated when I saw the angry expression on his face.
“Why did you do that?”
“Easy now I’m still chaste aren’t I?” I said and widened my smile.
The grin was practically glued on my lips.
Kartrik turned himself away from me and gave me a disgusted look as if I was a leper.
“Are the realms so alluring that they never stop captivating you?” He asked.
The question struck me and I felt both uncomfortable and confused.
He wasn’t pleased with me. Not at all.
“Have your brethren been looking for you?” I asked in a desperate way of changing the subject.
Kartrik didn’t answer right away so I waited impatienately.
“The order of the brotherhood has been deranged and...” His voice faltered which revealed the great sorrow in it.
He swollowed the lump in his throat.
“Are you sad about being cut off the brotherhood?” I asked a bit unnerved.
He gave me a forlorn look that confirmed my question.
“I’m so sorry for have been the cause of it...” My eyes burned and I blushed in shame.
“Shhh...” He whispered and placed his long forefinger on my trembling lips. He brushed them gently.
“Your so pliable” He said and gave me his speciell crooked smile which sent my heart racing.
Kartrik saw the sudden change. I had gone all read.
Suddenly he took a firm hold of my waist and carried me up. He leaned himself on me and placed his soft lips on mine and kissed me with such fervor that my head started to spin.
After a while he pulled himself away from me.
“I’m so sorry- I didn’t mean to...” He stuttered sheepishly.
“No...don’t...” I started with my head still spinning after the kiss.
“Are you OK?” He asked warily.
I blushed in shame.
“Of course...I’m perfectly fine...” I trailed off as the Academy clock started to ring so loud that it made me jump in surprise.
“Oh God! I’m late for vespers!” I exclamed pulling myself away from him.
“Time for me to go then.” He said and gave me a steady look as if he was waiting for an answer.
“Will you take me up the hill before you leave?” I asked with a small hint of fear in my voice.
“It’s quite unsuitable for a you lady to be in the woods unescorted.”
Kartrik bowed and I quickly pulled my arm through his as he slowly started to lead me up the slope.
“Quite imperative.” He answered and gave me a huge grin.
“Shall I take you all the way to the chapel?”
“No, that would be quite enough, thank you” I said and gave him a dismissing nod.
He laughed and gave me a playful kick on the leg.
“Why won’t you stop bothering me then? Haven’t I dismissed you, heathen? You may go now, and here...” I said placing a small piece of paper into his hand.
“...take this extra money and please do not show your face again.”
We laughed so hard that we lost our breaths and panted in pain.
