A Short-Short Story

1

Angie just finished the worst day of her life. She was late for both of her classes, and found out that she had failed her Spanish midterm. She knew she was never going to learn Spanish, and she was wondering why she even bothered to try! Her and her best friend got into a terrible fight, and as a result she fought with everyone at her job. Her boss threatened to fire her for " disturbing the customers. " To top it off, she almost got into a couple of car accidents on the way home. One rude drive even had the nerve to shout and give her the middle finger! Life was unfair, and she couldn't figure out why all of the lousy things always had to happen to her. While angrily contemplating on her lousy day, Angie plopped down on the sofa and turned on the television set. Before her eyes, she suddenly saw a woman on the screen- a beautiful woman with bright green eyes, and the most beautiful, curly aburn hair. But though she was very beautiful, she was actually terribly sad. With teardrops running down her cheeks, smudging her mascara, and washing away the rest of her make- up, she told a heartbreaking story of her only sons- both of whom had died in Iraq. As Angie listened, she began to cry also. She couldn't bear to imagine a woman losing both of her children in a war- a war which, to her at least, seemed sensless. It was only then that she began to realize how trivial her own problems actually were, and decided to no longer feel sorry for herself. 2
