I wake when the sun is warm, since there is no work for me today, almost forgetting the events of the day before. I make me normal breakfast of sausage and eggs. While frying the eggs, I dial my parent’s number, dad answers. I ask, “Is everything okay?” He replies, “Your mother still hasn’t come home.” I could hear his bottom lip quivering trying his hardest not to cry. Surprised, “I’ll be over as soon as I shower.” I hang up and attempt to finish eating. After eating all I can, I tidy the kitchen and head in for a shower. I lather my body and wash as fast as I can. Throwing on my workout clothes and tennis shoes I hurry out the door. 1
Since it’s so difficult to get a cab in his neighborhood, I decide to walk the ten blocks. I notice a woman with very familiar red hair walking toward me. I snicker to myself for actually thinking it could be the dancer from the diner. She gets close enough to really see, and it’s actually the dancer! The women looks much different then the night before, wearing regular jeans with a baby-tee saying, “Rock On”. 2
She looks at me and notices she has seen me before. She stops me and asks puzzled, “ You are the guy from the diner last night, well this morning.” Still speechless I only nod in agreement, “I told you I’d see you again.” Finding a little of my voice, I ask, “How could you be so sure?” She only answers, “I have my ways.” I smile and keep on walking partially scared and partially unable to have an answer to such and odd response. “Hey! I want to get coffee, you up for it?” she says as she grabs my arm. Still a little freaked out, “I am sorry I don’t have time right now, heading off to my parents.” She cheery says, “I’ll go with you than we can have coffee.” Absolutely shocked, “I say I don’t think so.” Again turning my back to walk off, she stops me one more time. “Okay, that’s fair, how about tomorrow at noon?” I think on it for a minute, “Why not? At the Starbucks on the corner?” I agree to this even though this is completely opposite of my personality, but something compels me to stay and hear what she had to say.3
