Another of my constant gripes,2
Is nationalistic stereotypes.3
4
5
A tiny step it is, you see,6
From jingoism to bigotry.7
8
9
I'm very proud to be a Scot,10
But called a "Jock"? Well no, I'm not,11
12
13
It lumps the lot of us together,14
Just picture haggis, kilts and heather,15
16
17
Massive red beards, and hairy knees,18
Oh gie's a break now, would you please?19
20
21
Americans would not give thanks,22
For always being addressed as "Yanks."23
24
25
It makes a picture in the mind26
Of cowboy hats, which is unkind,27
28
29
Loud checked tourists, chewing gum,30
With wads of cash and actions dumb.31
32
33
The "Frogs" don't all eat smelly cheese34
And "Chinks" are better called Chinese.35
36
37
And as for "Paki", that's a word38
Which would be better left unheard.39
40
41
I could go further, but it's clear42
You get the general idea.43
44
45
The more we think our race is best,46
The less we grow to like the rest.47
48
49
We build a fortress round about,50
Designed to keep the others out.51
52
53
"This is our land!" That's what we say,54
It seems it's always been that way,55
56
57
We talk of mankind as one race,58
The world should be a single place.59
60
61
But we spend time dividing it,62
And fighting over every bit.63
64
65
And politicians feed our fear66
"Protect this land that we hold dear!67
68
69
Don't let those foreign fellows come70
They'll make our land a sleazy slum!"71
72
73
Perhaps one day the world will be,74
Without a single boundary,75
76
77
But such a day, I'll never see.78

I also don't like the term race used in exchange for a person's heritage. I only know of one race on this planet and that's human. Ack!
Anyway, this is a great poem. Good luck in the contest!
