Drowning

I am drowning.1

Being pulled under by this rip-tide of pain.2

Has it really come to this? 3

Are we to die from the very thing we live on, air?4

By this foe smelling of pineapple and pepper.5

Why has god smited us? 6

Giving the enemy this power in the shape of a green-yellow haze. 7

We lay here our skin blackening,8

being smothered by the invisible pillow god is holding over our faces while our comrades flee.9

I am drowning.10

We are drowning. 11

Under the water we still drown, air getting harder to breath in, but we still watch the whirlwind of fear, confusion and pain. 12

Caught between life and death, limbo. 13

Vision fading questions rise almost bubbling. 14

Why has he done this?15

Can he hear our cries? 16

Does God even exist? 17

Then there is no noise only water always water. 18

We have finally reached the sand. 19

We have drowned. 20

I have drowned21

    Wow

Not exactly my type of poetry but wow. War poems often seem to be the best because they can detail feelings so vividly. Nicely done.
