Hope never dies

Blaze stood staring at the most gorgeous, mesmorising beauty he had ever seen. 1

She stood about 3 metres smaller than him, and had deep emerald eyes. Her neck was slender and long, her legs were muscular and lean. She had the most beautiful silver scales he had ever seen that sparkled under the moonlight like stars. Her wings were leathery, almost lilac in colour and were stretched out for balance. 2

Reality rushed back to him. She reared onto her back legs threatingly and silver flames poured out of her jaw like liquid metal. Blaze dodged out of the way, taking flight into the nights sky. She roared a challenge and flew after him.3

Blaze gazed down at the battle scene around him. Red dragons and silver dragons were fighting for their lives. An age old war was fought, the beginnings long lost forgotten. The serene silver roared again. Blaze turned to face her, just as she let another jet of flame out. He dived out of the way, the tip of his right wing almost getting hit. 4

He decided he would not, COULD NOT fight her. She was everything, all he could ever dream of. 5

* * *6

Amara growled angrily as the red dragon dodged her fire again. What was he doing? Why wouldn't he fight her? 7

His amber eyes bore into her very soul, she was lost in the fire of his thoughts. She realised that he would not harm her. Something about his very aura told her that. She scanned the battlefield and noticed the majority of dragons had left or been killed. 8

She let herself glide down the ground and watched as the red dragon landed heavily infront of her. 9

He was large, even by red dragon standards, and his head was massive. His horns rose out of his skull, one diagonally above his left eye, the other his right eye. His burning amber eyes were full of compassion and of something else she realised..love. 10

She looked at him thoughtfully and a feeling stirred inside of her. No! She thought, it is forbidden, no dragons of different colours could mate, or could they?11

She growled at him, frustrated for making her feel this way. She stretched her wings and in one magnificent surge, took off into the night's sky. 12

* * *13

Blaze stood dumbfounded. He had understood that look she gave him. He understood, because he felt exactly the same. 14

He watched her fly off until he could see her no more. How had it happened? How had two different coloured dragons fall in love with each other?15

He sighed and took off. He flew home, back to his forest where he could struggle with his thoughts in comfort. 16

He knew her name. He knew because somehow they had connected in that look. Amara. What a beauty she was. He loved her, not only for her looks, but for her mind. He had touched her very soul in that look and they had bonded. 17

How could love like that be forbidden? He had to find her. He had to be with her.18

* * * 19

Amara angrily swished her tail as her sister Feira told her again that her love could not be. Feira spoke of hypnotism, poison and other means by which Blaze had tricked her into thinking that she loved him. 20

Amara was not so sure. She had seen into Blaze's very inner core, felt his mind, emotions and desires. He loved her, that she was sure of. 21

They had to be together. Somehow. 22

The moon shone high in the sky, its silver light beaming down onto the hillside. 24

Silver and red moulded into one. Blaze and Amara leaned against one another, their necks entwined lovingly. 25

"Why won't the world except us? Why can't we be together?" Amara cried softly. Blaze looked at her, his heart in his eyes. 26

"It will one day. We will be together, but for now we can have this time together. It is ours, and ours alone."27

"Yes, our minds can connect any time we wish. We can always be together, even when far apart." She smiled then, her emerald eyes full of sorrow and hope. 28

"Remember my Amara, a light shines brightest in the dark, and like our love, that light will never fade."29

Amara shivered with excitement. One day they would be together. Blaze turned away from her staring at the distant moon. 30

"This will always be our symbol of hope. Remember, hope never dies." 31

* ~ * ~ *32

Years past by, but to a dragon it was as though hours. Both Blaze and Amara held onto their love, always with each other in mind, when they could not be together in body.33

They waited. Awaited the day they could be together, when dragons would accept their love. 34

The moon's light stood strong in their hopes and dreams, as long as it rose every night, they would be together. Forever. 35

    awww, my favorite part was the ending, "the moon's light stood strong in their hopes and dreams, as long as it rose every night, they would be together, forever". It's so romantic!

    Although I have to say that you kind of rushed the middle to the end a bit. Yet you still finished it perfectly.

    Great Job!
