As the operatives of M.U.S, Max and John, drove toward the crime scene, Max asked his partner “What are we doing here; there was no evidence that magic was used.”1
John, with his blonde hair and green eyes, looked even more intimidating with the gun strapped to his waist.
“There is, we just have to look harder.” John answered.
Max, unlike John, had black hair and blue eyes with a pistol hidden in his suit.2
“How do you know?” Max asked. Max and John are both magic uses who work for MUS, an organisation which keeps their world under control.
“I feel the disturbance in the air.” John answered in a mocking tone.3
In the world of magic, there are three main types of powers: fire, which is mainly used for combat, Water, which is mainly used by cops, and air, which is used for stealth type fights.
“Oh, so because you can control the air, that makes you special.” Max laughed. “Yeah, it does.” John responded.4
Max sighed in frustration as John looked at him.
“There has been a new development.” John added.5
As they pulled into the street, Max realised with a start that this was not the original crime scene, which meant that something had been found.
The street was called Frances Drive, and there were only 9 houses in all.
Each of the houses had two stories, a small, round garden and a large back yard.
As soon as John parked the car, a cop started to make his way up to them.
“This is a closed crime scene.” He yelled at them.
Max got out of the car and showed him their badge. 6
“MUS let us through.” Max demanded. The cop looked almost surprised.
“What does ‘MUS’ mean?!” The cop yelled back
“Classified.” John answered just as another cop walked behind the first.
“Let them through, Yuri.” He ordered the other cop and waved them through.
They drove up and parked in the drive way. The house had two stories, down stairs containing a kitchen, living room and laundry, upstairs containing, bedrooms, bathroom and a spare room.
“Long time no see, John.” said the cop.7
“I know, Tony.” John answered. “What do we have?” asked Max.
“Name, Dan Doshink, male. Looks like homicide, but no body. Daughters terrified, claims she came home to find the door opened, she entered and saw blood. Passer bys heard her scream, so they called 911.”8
“Cops came and searched the house. Blood came from the bathroom, going down the stairs and leading into the kitchen. Blood all over the place then trail disappears. Maybe carried in a sealed bag so no more blood could escape.”
“Possibly so that we can’t follow him.” John added.
“Let’s go in.” Max told John. He nodded and they both walked in.
As they entered, Tony was busy clearing the area. For M.U.S must work in secret, if people were to find out, things would get really ugly.9
They came in to find Sue Doshink crying into a soft toy. She was sitting on a green sofa with her back to them.
“I’ll handle this, you check up stairs.” Max told John. He nodded and walked up the stairs.
“Hello, Sue. I’m here to ask a few questions.” He said in a friendly voice. She nodded and looked up at him. He felt a ping of pain as he saw her face. She had light brown hair and wore a green dress; her face was red from crying.
“How old are you?” Max asked.
“E-eight.” She said over her tears.
“So, what happened?” he asked. She looked up and choked back tears. 10
“I was o-on my way h-home from school. I felt s-someone watching me but I kept moving. When I got close enough to m-my h-house, I ran straight away. I saw the door was open, so I walked in qui-quietly. The first thing I s-saw was blood!” she could not say any more, every time she opened her mouth, she struggled to talk through her crying.
....................................................................................11
“Go down stairs; let him do his work in peace!” Yelled the cop as John came up the stairs. 5 minutes later, he was all alone, finally.12
He entered the bathroom where it all started. The sink was ripped out of the wall while bottles and containers littered the floor.
He held up his hand to read the air, he felt great disturbances, something bad must have happened here. He searched through the bedrooms to come up with nothing, but as he moved toward the hallway he started picking up something. He remembered that no one had checked the spare room yet, so he went in to find that on the wall was a painting of a circle with a lightning bolt through it. 13
