Some people feel the rain.
Others just get wet.
~ Bob Dylan ~1
Oh yes, the past can hurt.
But the way that I see it,
you can either run from it, or learn from it.
~ The Lion King ~2
There's nothing you can do about the past.
But you can do a great deal about your future.
You don't have to be the same person you were yesterday.
You can make changes in your life,
Absolutely startling changes, in a fairly short time.
You can make changes you can't even conceive of now,
If you give yourself a chance.3
One day,
someone showed me a glass of water
that was half full.
And he said,
"Is it half full or half empty?"
So I drank the water.
No more problem. 4
When written in Chinese the word
crisis is composed to two characters.
One represents danger,
and the other represents opportunity.
~John F. Kennedy~5
And they say we'll never see
half as much as they did.
It's true that we never saw Vietnam or World War Two.
We didn't see our mother's cry when John F. Kennedy died,
But we've lived our whole lives
being told that we're just not good enough.
We've seen anorexia and bulimia
because skinny just isn't skinny enough.
We saw Columbine
and watched the Twin Towers fall.
We've seen a lot of greed and even more hate.
Our generation fights a different kind of war
but we've seen just as much as them.
And maybe even more.6
Congratulations!
You're not perfect!
It's ridiculous to want to be perfect anyway.
But then, everybody's ridiculous sometimes,
except perfect people.
You know what perfect is?
Perfect is not eating or drinking
or talking or moving a muscle
or making even the teensiest mistake.
Perfect is never doing anything wrong -
which means never doing anything at all.
Perfect is boring! So you're not perfect!
Wonderful! Have fun!
Eat things that give you bad breath!
Trip over your own shoelaces!
Laugh! Let somebody else laugh at you!
Perfect people never do any of those things.
All they do is sit around and sip weak tea
and think about how perfect they are.
But they're really not one-hundred-percent perfect anyway.
You should see them when they get the hiccups!
Phooey! Who needs 'em?
You can drink pickle juice and imitate gorillas
and do silly dances and sing stupid songs
and wear funny hats and be as imperfect as you please
and still be a good person.
Good people are hard to find nowadays.
And they're a lot more fun
than perfect people any day of the week7
I think everyday is made up of tiny little tests.
Some are tests of character.
Some are tests of fortitude.
Others are tests of friendship.
And if you're lucky,
when it really matters,
you'll pass with flying colors.

Why not seize the pleasure at once, how often
is happiness destroyed by preparation, foolish
preparations. -Jane Austen9
I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind.
Some come from ahead and some come from behind.
But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see.
Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!
~Dr. Seuss10
It's better to say too much Then never
say what you need to say. - John Mayer11
"I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do every-
thing, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to
do the something I can do." -- Hellen Keller
