Ghost Buster Dream

I chased her down the busy street holding my Bubble Blaster 3000 and hoping it had somehow recharged itself since the last time I used it.  She was giggling wildly and changing color, not a good sign.  I had to stop her soon or innocent people would be in danger.  Just then my partner cut her off, veering into her path on what appeared to be a purple motor scooter.  She raised her fist and shook it three times in the pinkish pulsating face and a cloud of glitter exploded around Jelly's glowing head.  She shrieked and clawed at her eyes, making such a loud fuss I looked around instinctively, expecting to see the pedestrians all around us to be watching this scene unfold with horrified eyes and gaping mouths.  But they were trotting along at their usual sheep's pace, oblivious and better off that way.  I felt my heart both leap and sink with a perfect mixture of relief and disappointment.  With Jelly blinded I could finally catch up to her and complete my mission.  My partner had backed away, giving me room, and silently locked her stare on Jelly with one arm cocked and ready to send another fistful of sparkle into Jelly's screaming face.  1

"It burns!  Bitches!  Burning!  Ahhhh!  Hatchoo!  Hatchoo!  Haaaa-chooo!  Hate you bitches!!!"  Jelly ranted between sneezes as I brought my blaster to bear and palmed the charge-up pad on top of the wide orange handle.  As I expected, it lit red twice and once yellow; the gun was all but dead but I fired it anyway, sending a pathetic stream of iridescent bubbles into Jelly's midsection.  It wasn't nearly enough to take her down but combined with the glitter still floating around her and the bright afternoon sun we fortunately caught her in, it was enough to keep her from getting away again.  2

She fixed her hateful white eyes on mine and I read murder in her gaze.  But they don't scare me.  I'm not some kid afraid of the dark anymore.  I shot her a smug smile and signaled Camey, who had already approached with the web gun.  I let her finish up while I surveyed the sidewalk with all its living, breathing traffic and sighed with satisfaction.  Another job well done.  I mentally clapped myself on the back and lit a much deserved cigarette.  When Camey had the soulless freak contained we hailed a cab and headed for The Complex. 3

    nice story...
i liked the action and fast pacedness(lol, i don't think that's a word...) but i loved you charater development, saying the character was both relieved and disappointed when they had trapped the ghost. Awesome
    Keep up the good work!

A great story on the level of the action- well described and fast paced, fun to read. I think you true talent is for character development, though. "I felt my heart both leap and sink with a perfect mixture of relief and disappointment" To want to be noticed for your great actions, that's such a raw, human instinct, and to bring that into your character added such another level of humanity. I saw this tortured person, doing their duty as a humanitarian, without any acknowledgement of the outside world.
I hope you continue to let us get to know this character as time progresses- it's really a fantastic one.
