"Jade?" says Dr. Black. "Jade, it's time for you to go home now." He pauses for a second, possibly as he considers how he should say what will come next.1
"I..." the doctor mumbles as he steps hesitantly toward Jade's bed. He sits down next to her and holds her blood-stained hand. "I'm sorry. I don't usually treat children. Now I know why. It's just so hard," he explains. A small but noticeable tear makes its way slowly down Dr. Black's pale cheek until it falls gently onto Jade's hand below and washes away a speck of crimson blood.2
"Huh?" Jade manages to whisper in an only semi-conscious state.3
Dr. Black restarts his short lecture after a few seconds of quietude. "Well, your blood loss was too-- too substantial. And-- the blood could not move to several of your v-- vital organs in time," he informs his young patient through his frightened stuttering.4
"But does that mean...?" Jade asks nervously as she reaches over to grab the Doctor's bloody shirt.5
"I'm so sorry. I... Uh... We tried our best. I guess it just wasn't good enough. I wish this didn't have to happen!" screams Dr. Black as he loses his composure and runs out of Jade's room.6
