Chapter 11
I followed Qahren, my hopes high and thoughts on the one thing I wanted most.2
Him.3
I hadn’t thought of him as much before, but once my eyes were opened I realized, that he was the one I wanted. He stopped, his eyes gazed down into mine with such intensity I almost fell backwards. This is it, he wants me as much as I want him, this is what I have been waiting for.4
I awoke suddenly, a scream locked in my throat. It was a dream.5
Only a dream. 6
I thought over what just played in my mind. It wasn’t a normal dream I knew that straight away. First of all Qahren and I never got along, well more the other way around. I never got along with him. Qahren had a thing for me ever since I met him, and despite my constant show of unaffectionate behavior towards him, it didn’t stop him from trying. 7
Anger boiled inside of me. I looked around madly, getting up I knocked Clayton my black cat off my bed and wrapped my bathrobe around me as I stormed out my room. 8
I shared a house with Qahren and a couple of his friends, partly because of security issues and I wasn’t that big on money. Qahren had offered me a place to go when my parents kicked me out of home, after learning my little secret that I’m a vampire. Now you may be thinking, vampire? Yea right that’s a myth. Well my mother and father never believed it either until I started showing a great interest in blood and a discomfort in the sun, and when they finally found me munching on the next door neighbors cat well that just made them loose it. I knew from then on that my secret was out. My discomfort for the sun didn’t last long thankfully so that myth was busted straight away and I found it hard to sleep during the day and at night. 9
I’m not sure how I became a vampire. I was told that you were either born one or you turned if you were bitten. But as far as I can remember my mother and father never showed any signs of being vampires and I was never bitten. Needless to say when my parents got rid of me I had nowhere to go, so most of my child hood I spent walking the streets, taking only what I needed from humans. Not long after that did I find Qahren. He seemed interested in me, only being a few years older. He offered me a home and help with the one thing I had become. Who was I to not accept his invitation? Of course that didn’t mean I wasn’t wary. 10
I walked out into the dark hallway towards the other bedroom, smashing the door down.11
“Qahren! Wake up this instant before I drag you out here!” 12
Qahren rolled onto his side yawning widely and opened his eyes a crack to “see” who was there, before grinning and rolling back onto his other side. Nice try, he wasn’t going to fool me. I knew he wasn’t asleep. The dream didn’t plant itself in my head. 13
Like me Qahren is a vampire that any mortal female would fall for. He had thick black hair, which often hung in his eyes and bright green eyes and the palest skin that often made you want to touch it. He was what mortals would call a male model. His figure was athletic build, and just as good as the rest of him.14
“Qahren I swear to god if you don’t get out this instant.”15
I walked gracefully towards his bed and pulled the sheets back.16
“Get up!”17
He rolled onto his back grinning up at me.18
“Kalima what a pleasant surprise, what would you be doing in my room this time of night?”19
“Don’t pretend you don’t know Qahren, what’s the big idea putting those dreams in my head?!”20
“I don’t know what you’re talking about Kalima; I’ve been asleep the whole time.”21
I shook my head angrily, knowing that I looked like a complete idiot and knowing he was lying. I grabbed him by the shoulders and looked him directly in the eyes, feeling my fangs growing longer. 22
“I know you did it and I swear if I so much as even smell you in my dreams I will be after you.”23
The look he gave me was one of innocence and deviance, and as he grinned I noticed his fangs growing longer. 24
“I look forward to it, but are you sure you wouldn’t rather play now?”25
I pushed him backwards before sauntering out the room, ignoring his incompetence and headed for the shower. His quiet footsteps followed after me hurriedly following me to my room. I slammed the door shut in his face as I entered and locked it. 26
“Come on Kalima, let me in….You know I can break this door down easily even with the locks.”27
“Yes but if you were civilized you would give me some privacy.”28
Not that that would really matter. Qahren had seen me without clothes enough times. But that was a long time ago, when I had in fact fallen for him. 29
A long draw out sigh was heard from the other side of the door.30
“Fine ill meet you downstairs I guess.”31
“Sure.”32
I waited till his footsteps disappeared down the hallway and headed for my drawers. It was a rather cold day so I took out a pair of long flared jeans, a plain black shirt and a black hooded jacket before prowling towards the shower.33
I loved my showers just as much as I loved blood, but nothing could compare the smell of the rose shower gel I used. I was always told that roses were my favorite flowers, and that was one thing I knew was true.34
After having a long relaxing shower I walked downstairs, and found Qahren, Liander and Daziel sitting around the small table. They looked up as I entered and grinned.35
Daziel was the first to speak.36
“Hey Kalima, did you have a good sleep?”37
His grin seemed to spread right around the table, as small burst of laughter erupted from everyone.38
I grabbed the pan, lying on the sink and chucked it at them, barely missing Qahren’s head.39
“Nice Qahren, thanks for telling them you intruded into my head.”40
The laughter died down all at once as Qahren stood up, cleared his throat, and smacked the other two over the head. 41
“Hey, uh you two cut it out ok I’m sure she doesn’t want to be laughed at…Kalima you smell as strong as a rose garden”42
“Well thanks Qahren, I do my best.”43
Qahren replied with opening the windows.44
I rolled my eyes and headed for the front door.45
“Where do you think your going Kalima?”46
Qahren grabbed my arm as I was about to reach for the door handle.47
“Um for a walk, I mean I smell so bad after all, ill leave you guys to have your hysterics.” 48
“Kalima it was only a joke and I promise they wont laugh anymore.”49
There was always one thing that bothered me about Qahren. His sense of humor was nothing to find funny, at times it could be down right rude.50
“Everything is a joke to you Qahren.” 51
I shoved him backwards with as much force as I could muster, which really wasn’t all that much compared to Qahren. He didn’t even move one step.52
“Qahren let me go right now!”53
“Or what”54
I growled and let go of the door handle in defeat. There was no way I could beat him. His strength was no match for mine, and even if I did make it outside, he would follow me until I got annoyed and ended up going home anyway.55
“That’s what I thought Kalima…”56
“Oh go annoy Daziel or someone...”57
I started heading up stairs and saw Clay on the landing. As far as cats went, mine was no where near ordinary. I paused and looked down at Clay.58
“What are you looking at?” 59
I said it with a bit more anger then I should of but I would hear about it. Clay could communicate with me through thoughts. He was half demon, and in times of danger changed to become that of what he is called.60
‘Good morning to you too Kalima, and its ok I accept your apology for throwing me off the bed this morning’ 61
I sighed and stopped just outside my door.62
“Ok Clay I’m sorry, you would have done the same if you knew what happened.”63
He pattered after me as I entered my room, throwing open my long draped curtains and blinking away the harsh light as it caught my eyes.64
“Well why don’t you tell me, after all I am here to protect you”65
Clay was perched on the top of my bed, his black fur glistening with the light, and his green eyes shining brightly.66
I sat down next to him and petted the top of his head carefully.67
“He intruded my dreams again; he does it every time it’s getting really annoying!”68
Clay was silent for a moment before a flicker of laughter crossed through the line.69
‘And that was all?’70
“Well yes but, Clay you don’t understand, its getting beyond the joke. He won’t even let me leave the house without him.”71
Clay bowed his head in agreement.72
‘Never thought of moving out of here? Perhaps we could find someplace new to live.’73
I thought about what Clay had said. In one way he had a point. It may be time to move out and live my own life without the constant late night dreams, and having to sit in the house. I was about to agree with Clay when thousands of other thoughts crossed my mind. 74
What if I needed them? How was I supposed to live with barley enough money to support me as it was? Would I miss them…75
I shook my head and looked at Clay.76
“You don’t think I’m being a child and running away?”77
‘Everyone needs there own time and space Kalima.’78
I nodded.79
“I guess I should tell them…soon.”80
Clay nodded and stood up to stretched, ears flicking forward.81
‘We have company; someone is on there way to the door.’82
As the thought ran through my head, the doorbell rang and played its merry tune. I slowly eased myself up off the bed and walked towards the stairs.83
As I planted a foot on the top step, Qahren skidded to the door opening it. I ‘hurried’ down as usual to see who it was. 84
Before I even reached to bottom step, my name rang out, not from Qahren but from my best and, only female friend Raaksha. 85
Chapter 286
As far as making friends go I was more into making friends with males rather then females. It always seemed easier to me, but Raaksha has been my friend for centuries. Unlike my house family Raaksha was a Werewolf, and one of very few around the city. 87
“Raaksha!! What brings you all the way here?”88
Qahren sidestepped to let Raaksha in, clearly disappointed that the guest wasn’t for him. As Raaksha entered, a large black wolf entered after her.89
Dante.90
Qahren was always the first to make trouble with my guests and decided now was the perfect time to interfere.91
“Oh no, no dogs in the house I don’t want fur everywhere. We already have enough with that darned cat here.”92
Clay took that instance to walk down the stairs.93
‘I am being spoken about?’94
I nodded once and laughed. 95
Raaksha turned to Qahren. “Dante is also a guest, so therefore he can stay. Besides I don’t think that Kalima has a problem with it.”96
Qahren glared at me.97
I shrugged and looked at Dante stroking his head gently.98
“It’s good to see you again Dante.”99
‘And to you the same Kalima.’100
Like Clay, Dante was part human. At night he was human, whilst during the day he was a wolf, none the thanks of a wizard that thought he would look better with fur. He could communicate with me through my thoughts, like Raaksha. 101
Clay sat on the bottom of the stairs studying Dante, obviously communicating with him through thoughts. 102
I could hear Daziel and Liander making their way towards the hall where we were standing and quickly grabbed Raaksha’s arm, taking her upstairs, and ignoring the complaints from Qahren as I did so.103
“What’s the rush Kalima?”104
I ignored the comment from Raaksha until I safely entered my room.105
When Dante and Clay entered the room after Raaksha, I closed the door and spun around. 106
“They are the problem! I have to get out of here.”107
Clay took that chance to walk out onto the balcony with Dante.108
Raaksha looked at me before sitting down on my bed and looking at my collection of books. 109
“What’s wrong with them, or is it one of them in particular?”110
“It’s….well okay you’ve got me there… It’s Qahren” 111
“In your dreams again?”112
“Yep…”113
“Figured as much…”114
Raaksha turned to look at Clay and nodded.115
“Clay is right, you know. Maybe it is about time you moved out; you need your own life, one that doesn’t involve these immature vampires.”116
I looked at Clay and gave him a withering look as his tail flicked back and forth impatiently, waiting for Raaksha to continue.117
“You can move in with me if you like, I do own Moonlit manor.”118
I looked up a little surprised at the offer. 119
“That would be great…Oh yea, so why did you come all the way from Moonlit. That’s quite a journey”120
“Not really, I haven’t seen my best friend for ages, thought we should catch up”121
I could tell Raaksha was lying; it was time to get the truth.122
“Raaksha, I have known you for centuries, enough to know when you’re telling the truth.”123
A long sigh came from Dante, as he and Clay entered the room and his thoughts merged into my head.124
‘Raaksha, tell her, we need her help and you know it, you can’t handle this on your own.’125
I turn to Raaksha as she glares at Dante.126
“What do you need my help with? It must be serious…”127
Raaksha nods and looks down at the bed spread.128
“We have been having a little trouble down at moonlit lately. A group of Lycans and new born vampires seem to be attracted to the place. Dante and I have taken out a few but more and more keep coming. But the worst part is the bloody things seem to be coming after me.”129
I stare open mouthed at Raaksha.130
“How long has this been happening?”131
“A few months, I thought we could handle it.”132
“A few months?!”133
“I know, I was so wrong, but it didn’t seem that serious.”134
I shake my head and stand up, looking at Clay as he nods once.135
“We will come; I know how serious Lycans and new borns can be. There are a few things we have to find out. Like who is turning these humans into new borns and where these Lycans are popping up from.”
