Another Lullaby

Hush little baby; don't you cry.1

Someone's going to sing you a lullaby2

A not-so-mocking bird will sing3

Of the joy a diamond ring should bring4

Silver bell will toll and you will say5

"I do, I do, every single day!" 6

So you are married with a home for the heart7

Until your marriage slowly falls apart 8

You have fallen out of love 9

Your heart feels like a caged up dove 10

Someone else may come along11

And hum a brand new lullaby song 12

One that is sweet and new to your ears 13

It will coax out all of those unshed tears14

Your former life is long undone15

But you have found another one16

It's full of passion and full of pain17

You now say, "Baby, bring on the rain." 18

But you are still young and wild 19

Still barely anything but child20

You have only been given a bigger cage21

This you realize full of rage 22

For no one else but you alone23

You should be free to fly and roam 24

Escape and run away northward and fast 25

Never look back to things long past26

You begin to sing your own lullaby beat 27

It isn't the best, too short and sweet28

It lulls you to sleep, often not enough29

But it carries you through the rough and tough30

You live like this a long time before31

Once again you have to soar32

Back to the place you came from33

The one place you never belonged34

Not for the happiest reasons, I know35

You are older now, forty or so36

And in the midst of confused emotion37

You catch your first glimpse of the ocean38

It is new and unknown to your eyes39

Glistening and liquid, more reachable than sky40

Your curios streak is kicked into gear41

Not a small glance back to the rear42

You dive in headfirst, not bothering with air43

Drowning in love but you don't care44

You finally found the right lullaby song45

Under your nose it had been all along46

Beautiful? Sure, but maybe not so sweet.47

Quite salty actually but just the right beat48

It squeezes you and creeps in deep49

Finally you get a companion for sleep 50

You will grow old and weak together51

Rding it out through the toughest of weather52

Of course there were others in all this mess53

But these are the ones you loved the best54

The last is the most important of all55

Still beckoning to its every call56

Through lullabies now and lullabies then57

They're how all stories should end and begin58

Author notes

This is not my greatest but not my worst.

Inspired but quite a few things including a few books by Alice Hoffman.

I understand there are many gramatical errors and not-so-fantastic flow but it was mostly just and exercise piece and I'm not too concerned about it. However, I may come back and mess with it some more later but I'm tired and I'm seriously thinking of falling alseep in this chair.
