Grant was lying on the cool grass. Staring up at the sky. He looked like he was waiting for something. Then again, so was I. I was waiting for something to change, something to make him realize we werent alone in the world anymore. To make him feel that the real world wasnt like this. 1
Outside. Outside teenagers like us weren't held in a private world with no adults. That the universe wasn't getting any thinner, but then what proof do I have? I was like him. I was stuck in the same situation. 2
No parents.3
No saftey net.4
No knowledge of where my siblings could be. 5
I crawled down and layed a foot away from him and stared at the once beautiful sky I admired, now all I saw was emptiness. 6
He turned his head to look at me, "There is no way out."7
I look at him and saw that he was serious. Who knew that two seventeen yearolds could understand so much.8
"What do you mean?" I asked.9
"That's what this is. We aren't meant to get out. We're just something to get rid of."10
"Don't say that."11
"I just did."12
"Try to think better thoughts, that's what I do."13
He sat up quickly and stared at me angrily, "Im not you Sara. I'm not you."14
"Have some faith!"15
"No, because I wouldn't know where to start! Everyone I put faith in ended up throwing me to the birds and look where it's gotten us! This is where trust brings you!"16
I stood up and walked over to him, he stood up too. I tried grabbing his hand but he pushed it away.17
"Faith isn't what you put into something, Grant! It's a leap when you don't know if there is a surface to land on! It s a test of character, something unexplanable but clearly shows definition. It is something dark and good at the same time," I grabbed his hand again, "It's something willing you have to give and willing that you have to be crushed with."18
This time he didn't let go.
