She walked out of the classroom and remembered she had to meet up with Chris. She walked on over to where they usually met and there he was, not her best friend Chris the one she's known since forever, not the guy she grew up with but a different one.1
"Hey," she managed to say.2
"Hey."3
"Is everything all right?"4
"No Michelle everything is NOT all right, okay?"5
"6
What's going on?"7
"What's going on? What's going on? I thought you trusted me more than that Michelle? We've known each other for so long and when you need someone to talk to you usually come to me but now what do you have to say? You needed someone and I was there but obviously I wasn't good enough..."8
"Chris do not even go there. That is not the situation damn it and you know 9
it!"10
"Oh then tell me Shell, tell me why couldn't you have called me up?"11
"I... I don't know and I'm sorry."12
"For what? It's your life, do as you please." With that he got up and left. 13
Michelle would have normally gone after him to try and work things out but she figured he had the right to be angry; if she would have gone to him chances are she wouldn't have just changed her entire life.14
She walked off and waited for the bus underneath a tall tree. 'Me pregnant? I'm not ready to be a mom; I don't even know HOW to be a mom. This is going to be one heck of a lesson that's for sure!'15
"She needs us now, more than anything," Michelle's father said.16
"She needs us? SHE NEEDS US? What kind of an example is that setting? Her screwing up and going out and getting pregnant and us not doing anything will only make it seem like what she did was okay, PLEASE explain to me how that's in any way okay," her mother yelled.17
"Well if we do anything, it's like telling the rest of our children that ONE screw up and they are out of the house, is that an example we want to give them? Isn't it bad enough that our oldest son left because of everything? Do we really need to lose both?"18
Michelle sat behind her door, crying. Her brother had left just a few months before hand and she didn't even know if he was alive or not. She wiped her tears and decided to face both of her parents, as an adult. She stood up and opened the door - her parents looked at her and not one of them said a word.19
"I . . ." she began to stutter, "I want to talk to you both, if that's okay with you."20
They all went downstairs and began to talk; Michelle did not do much talking though. All her parents kept saying was that this was going to change her life, that this was going to make her goals harder to achieve.21
"I KNOW," she said, "I know I messed up I know I just made my life 100 times harder, but I also know you both taught me never to give up and I don't plan to. It takes two to make a baby and even if one does NOT want to step up that does not give another person a reason to give up!"22
With that she went on to her room and started to think about her life. 'What's this going to change exactly? How am I going to handle it? If I show a single sign of weakness then its what my parents want and I'm not going to give them that, I'm stronger than that. Who am I kidding? I guess I just have to face the music now.'23
She picked up the phone and called Chris; she wanted to apologize but kept getting his voicemail. Then her phone beeped; she picked it up and heard a familiar voice on the other line. It was her school councilor. What the heck did he want she thought?24
"Michelle? Hello?"25
"Hey, Mr. Scott, is everything okay?"26
"I'm afraid not Michelle, will you come into my office as soon as you get to school tomorrow? We need to discuss a few things."27
"Uhm, sure thing tomorrow morning," she said as they both hung up. 'I wonder what's going on?'28
