The wind blew through my hair as I drove down the road. A good month has flown by, and just as the birds would fly during the spring and summer, I find myself watching them more as they fly off towards the sky to avoid the oncoming winter. Wish I could do that...just fly away from all this. From these memories, from the deaths of friends and loved ones. 1
Once I had arrived home I took my jacket off and went out to the gazebo that overlooked the sea and smiled a bit. 2
"Athrun." I heard a voice call and glanced back a moment before turning my attention back to the sea's that overlooked Lacus's house. 3
It was a beautiful scene...Serene, peaceful even. The kind of peace you wouldn't want to end or be disturbed by. I sure as hell didn't want to be disturbed by anyone. But she was here might as well start a conversation with her.4
"How did the meeting go?" I asked softly leaning on the railing my hand hanging off the rails and moving back ad fourth. 5
"As well as could be expected. Athrun...a lot of the members have been asking about this experiment...I'm curious to..." Lacus said.6
Go figure. I knew someone was going to start asking one day. About this experiement, about my babies...my daughters. Far as they know I had volunteered for it, just for the simple fact of not having to burden Cagalli with carrying children and having to put her work on hold.7
But the truth was..it wasn't entirely volunteer work. It was like when Logos created their souped up versions of the coordinators. That Stellar girl and the other two. They wanted to take second generation Coordinator's, put them through various tests of gene splicing and DNA printing or imprinting...things like that, taking certain genes out placing new ones in. The males espeically worked really well. 8
During my time there, it seemed like nothing but endless tourture. So many tests, so many results. I came out the successful one, the one that could carry children, possibly even bare them from my own body. So far The pregnancy had gone well. Except for the morning sickness. "Its something I have to get used to, being pregnant that is. 9
"What is it your curious about?" I asked keeping my eyes away from her. 10
"Was it really volunteer work?" Lacus asked a frown coming across my lips.11
"Yeah..it was." I said nodding. 12
There was no sense in scaring her half to death. Or having all of the plants on those people...then again there was sense in that. But like Logos they knew how to hide, and hide well. So even if I could tell everyone about them...they would just run and set up in another place again...so what could I do? Nothing. Nothing at all. Just sit and wait for my babies to be born and hope they're born healthy and with no birth defects. 13
"What are you going to name them?" Lacus asked softly. 14
"Destiny...and I haven't decided on a name for the second."15
Truth be told I had come up with a second name...I just wasn't ready to let go of her. Crazy as it seems and even though Meer was used as a puppet I feel it would do her some justice to name my second child after her. But not now...its still to soon. These dreams. They still haunt me. Even when I'm awake, sometimes I'll see images of her. Ghostly visions that all but begged to be reached out to. 16
"That's a pretty name. I'll have to get the babies something." Lacus said smiling. 17
I leaned up looking at Lacus, for the first time not seeing Meer. Just Lacus. 18
"You don't have to do that. I'll be fine on my own, I've already starting buying baby clothes and such." I said and leaned my back against the railing as the wind blew gently past us and I held my hair back to keep it from blowing against my ear. 19
"At least let me take you shopping though. I don't think your clothing will last much longer with your growing stomach." She said chuckling a bit.20
I tilted my head to the side at that. "What's that supposed to mean?" I asked smiling a little. "My stomach will grow more than anything else. "The doctor says I have to gain weight, but my metabolism is so fast I probably won't gain but at least five or ten..if that." I said.21
Hell from what my doctor told me I lost weight when I'm supposed to be gaining it! A small sigh escapes my lips as I smile a little and place a hand on my stomach. 22
"This is the longest you've gone." Lacus said. 23
"Hmm?" I asked being brought back from my thoughts. "What did you say?" I asked. 24
"Without looking away from me. This is the longest you've gone, you must be slowly starting to let go of her." Lacus said. 25
"Meer...mmm...Sorry but I have to go inside I'm starting to fall asleep out here." I said and walked off.26
"Athrun...." I heard Lacus say before a few tears came from my eyes and I wiped them away going back inside.27
"Tori!" I heard a little voice say and held my hand out as a green and yellow bird landed on my hand. 28
"Aren't you supposed to be with Kira?" I asked and let it hop on my shoulder and went upstairs to my room to rest.
