The ground was dry and barren. It stretched flat for as far as the eye could see before the rough, jagged mountains jutted up black against the grey darkening sky. The ground was cracked and scorched, brittle beneath my feet. Look up.1
I see the sky, it could be night, could be day, can't tell for the clouds that spred themselves thick accross the heavens. Rolling with its thunderous laughter, tumulting itself with ripples of dark grey and black. Its tears of mirth like blood drip-dropping thickly down to the harsh land. It pooled itself in the cracks creating little mazes of crimson rivers all around me.2
The air is still, stagnate against me, the oxygen is low and I hear my labored breathing harsh above the pounding of the icy-blood rain. A flash of light as the whirling clouds spit fire. I listen deep...my heart doesn't beat. So very still is strange to me.3
The ground beneath me groans and rumbles and opens up to me. Slowly sinking or the ground rising sharply all around, being buried by the earth, the scarlet pools deeper around my feet, to my ankles. If my heart still beat it'd pound through my chest.4
Wildly clawing at the ground around me. Trapped. Another flash of fire from the angry heavens, I see I am not alone. Scrappy skeletons line the small earthen hole, advancing toward me, shrinking the hole further. Stringy hair wove in knots on their headsand a fire in their soul-less eyeless sockets. Rotten, yellowed teeth bore grins of triumph, full of worms and grey maggots. 5
I smell them, they spread everywhere like a nasty contagious disease. They smell like eggs, long left rotting, and death stale and old. Their stench permeated every inch of breathable air there had been. I felt my brain fuzz and blur, my head began to pound.6
My eyes ached. My body sagged against the crusted harsh rock-dirt wall behind me as my eyes drooped. I felt a hundred bone-fingers clawing and scraping at my cold sensitive skin, my nerves stood on end as death took his hold of me. He'd already stopped my heart, now he only needed to capture my mind.7
Slowly, slowly I grind against my earthen barrier behind me to the scaley scorched ground beneath. The click and clatter of the skeletons around me slowly muted. My skin began to warm. The sharp nails and bones quit their exploration of my skin and I looked up through my blood-weighted hair to see them part. 8
A straight line, right to a tall figure garbed in black. His (for only a man may have his stature) head was draped in a large black hood, hiding all but ruby red lips formed in a slight smirk at the sight of me. I looked back, it was all I could do. Something about him rendered all my muscles and limbs useless. It seemed he studied me, explored me with his eyes, as if trying to figure something out as he tilted his head slightly. Another flash of fire from the humored skies. 9
His face. I saw his slightly glowing pale violet eyes, that could capture an entire universe. They were not empty like the skeletons, not with their same fire of anger or selfish greed their sockets held. He moved. He was walking...no. More glinding soflty toward me. I back slightly against the wall more, I have found my body once again. 10
I stood shakily to my feet, eyes never leaving the smirking, omnisiant, ruby lips. I look to where i saw his eyes, he's closer now, so much closer. I can see clearly his slender face, pale and fragile-looking. Sharp cheek bones and a nudged nose all framed by soft, black hair from what I could see beyond his hood. 11
The smirk was gone now, replaced by a preditory smile. Further back I pressed and felt the sharp flakes of the earthen guard digging and cutting into my back, drawing blood. He stops. So close, I could just raise my hand and meet his. His long pale, elegant fingers suddenly moved and he had me by the chin, he was warm, so warm compared to my nearly frozen flesh.12
His violet eyes bored into mine, searching through me, down to my very soul. I felt a shiver travel through my body, starting where it used to beat, traveling out from there 'till it reached my toes. He let me go. I slumped against the wall once again for support.13
He laughed, his voice deep and rumbling, as if it were a gift from the very skies above. It had a metalic undertone that made my ears ring slightly. Slowly his laughter died away, leaving only its echo. And once again he was smirking, but his eyes have changed, no longer hard and critical, but even seemed to now hold a soul. A light danced behind his eyes as once again they wandered, though this time it was over the still forms of the skeletons surrounding us. 14
A slight move of his hand and they seemed to droop, upset like they had just lost something they dearly wanted, I couldn't help but think they had, and that it was me, as they clattered away. I watched them leave, climbing like spiders up the steep walls and out of the hole to the surface.15
I felt the weight of those eyes once again upon me. I tried to consciously remind myself how to breath when I realized that at some point I had stopped. But I didn't need to. Not any more, my heart hasn't beat since a long time ago. I met his eyes, glad he wouldn't be able to take my breath away with his pale violet, all-consuming eyes that seemed to see and know everything about me.16
He took my hands in his. His eyes softened along with his mouth into a gentle smile and his eyes drifted upward to the now gently thundering sky his face following. I follow his movements. He gives me a slight tug closer to him and I look back down to him from the sky. Another smile, slightly open mouthed so I saw the sharp teeth my dark prince had. My eyes widened as I realized what he was.17
A Vampire, my Vampire of Death.18
Behind him something spread. Feathers, all black and plush, sleek and shiny despite our surroundings, his home. He had wings large and magnificent in beauty. Again he gave me a soft tug and this time I allow him to pull me into his grasp. His arms fold protectively around me. I feel so safe...He grips me tighter to him, reasuring, for us both. Pressed and formed to eachother perfectly. His enticing lips formed into a smirk once again and his eyes danced with mirth as he heard my slight gasp at the feeling, so close. 19
He crouched slightly and lifted his wings high. Suddenly he beat them down and lept into the air with myself still tucked in his strong arms. I held him tighter around his formed waist, held on for dear life...though I was no longer living and knew somehow, that he wouldn't allow me to fall.20
I tucked my head to his tight chest. His scent filling me completely. He smelt of rich wine, of salt and fresh earth, sweet and musky. My eyes flutter closed as I relax solely onto him. Here I am, flying above my own personal hell in deaths arms. I no longer had to worry.21
Death had won me over, body, mind, and soul. And he protects me, keeps me from my hell, maybe even loves me, I know I love him, if that is this feeling. We float silently by, in our safe bubble from the storm and the hellish place of my minds own creation. 22
Softly by his wings of Beautiful Death,23
I'm free,24
I'm safe.25
