~Rain falls down,1
on the ground,2
drenching all the town...~3
The little music Box played it's small song over and over again. Sylvie lay on her bed, quietly singing along to the tune. She'd gotten the music box when she was 6. She used to listen to it all night while she slept.4
"Rain falls down...on the ground...drenching all the...town." She sang the words half-heartedly, because half of her mind was focused on something different. her childhood, age 6.5

Sylvie laughed as she ran around in the rain, skipping happily along the drenched road and splashing into the puddles. Her mother watched from the front porch with a towel, waiting to dry off her daughter when she ran back, soaked.8
'Rain falls down!! On da gwound! Dwenching all da town!!" She sang the song, messing up on a few words. She was still young after all. her mom laughed and motioned Sylvie to come over to her. She dried of her hair off, humming that same tune.9

It was Sylvies 6th birthday, and all of her family members were there for the celebration. They ate their cake and now it was time for the little girl to open her presents. She picked up the heaviest package and ripped the wraping paper off. Under all the wrapings, was a brightly polished box. a music box. Sylvie opened it up, and that same tune played.13

~Rain falls down, on the ground. drenching all the town.~ A smile brightened on Sylvies face, and she loved her gift.15

It was dark. Sylvie's mom had died from a sickness. Sylvie and her dad stood there in front of her tombstone, staring bleakly at the white cross with her mother's name engraved in it. 19

Sylvie closed the top to her music box, cutting the song off mid-way through. She looked at the ceiling and sighed,28

"Rain falls down...on the ground...drenching all the....town." And as she finished singing the song one last time, she looked out the window. It was raining.

Nice.
I liked the continuity that the song provided; it tied the story together.
Thing is, I wish there had been more.
What you have here is straightforward and basic plot. There's a lot of room for growth in all aspects of the story--the characters, the imagery, and the plot itself.
I'm sure if you fleshed everything out, this would be fantastic.
Thanks for entering!
