A Spring Kitsune Kiss

I remember the day I met my first friend. It was snowing as the cherry blossoms held the snow upon their nimble branches. I was six years old as I sat under that snowy tree, I was waiting for my brother to come home but as usual he never did. 1

I remember how a silver fox came up to me and sniffed my slipper covered foot in curiosity. I smiled at it and weakly patted its soft furry head.2

“Hello there, I am Mizuki” I muttered to the fox.3

“I know who you are but do you know who I am?” The fox asked as I sat there in shock. I never knew foxes could talk till that day.4

Now here I am ten years later under the same tree but while it is fully blossomed and allowing the sweet smelling blossoms adoring the ground and giving the land a beautiful pink colour. A young man adorned in a red Kimono stood next to me.6

“Such a beautiful Kimono” he suddenly says as I look down at the dark blue kimono with silver Kitsunes adorn it.7

“Why, thank you for the compliment” I say softly with a small bow. He gives me a soft smile as I look up at him.8

“Still formal as ever Mizuki” he says as I look at him in surprise.9

“You know me?” I ask as he smiles and put a finger to my lips.10

“I am the Kitsune that has been watching you for a long time” he says as I continue to stare at him in surprise. He places his hand on his hips and smiles.11

“I thought Kitsunes are tricksters and if they have a human form, they are usually females” I gasped as I look at him. He smiled deviously as he places an arm around y shoulders.12

“Well some of us are tricksters, I know I can be at times, especially when people try to hurt you” He says as I simply nod. “Also, I didn’t want to be a female cause that would be wrong for me to express my feelings, hence why I am a male”13

“I see and you have feelings for a girl?” I ask as he smiles.14

“Yep, you. Despite the fact that I followed you for sixteen years, I was always remembering the first day we actually met” He says as the blossoms fell from the tree. I continue to look out into the distance at the lone mountain which I travel to so I collect flowers for the markets on the weekend.15

“Really, why am I so special?” I ask as he smiles and drapes his arms on my shoulders.16

“Since you are a unique woman and I always find that quality attractive in woman” He says as I look at him in interest. He gently pulls me to him in a warm embrace. “I will always watch over you and protect you from any harm that threatens to happen” he adds as I nod and return the embrace.17

“Winter is our first meeting, Spring is our first romance, what will summer bring?” I ask as he continues to hold on.18

“Our first child” he says as I look at him in surprise.19

“Are you serious?” I ask as he laughs.20

“That or we bind ourselves to each other, who knows” he says as I smile. I felt his lips on mine as the sun slowly sunk into the distance, illuminating the lovers. Their shadows reflecting on the grass in the form of a girl and a Kitsune.
