Abandonment, chapter 8

Since Akari woke up from her shut down, she's been more aware of things that somehow would usually escape most people. What Marik didn't know was that when she shuts down for a long period of time, it does damage to her system. But on the other hand, it makes her more alert. And prepared. It was already April, and the weather was starting to get nicer. Marik and Akari were out almost all the time. They were out of the house again today, and just walking around town. They walked into a store and ran into her parents. Akari quickly ducked out of the store, without being seen by her parents, and Marik did the shopping. Unfortunately, not ten minutes outside the store, her parents came out of the store and looked at her. 1

"Figured you wouldn't be too far from that boyfriend of yours." Her father said disapprovingly.2

"Shut up dad, you kicked me out of the house, so I can be with whoever I want to be with."3

"Don't speak to me like that, whether you are kicked out of the house or not, you will show me the respect that I deserve."4

Marik showed up within minutes of the argument and told her father off. Akari leaned into Marik's chest face first, crying. Marik hugged Akari and whispered soothing words in her ear. Akari soon calmed down. Marik led Akari away from her disgruntled father and Akari took one last look at her father and allowed Marik to lead her away. 5

"Akari you should have walked away, you know he can get underneath your skin so easily."6

"He wouldn't have allowed me to walk away. It's either you stand your ground or you're considered a coward."7

"So, Akari," a familiar voice said. "You're on your own. You have a fiancee. Stand up for yourself."8

"'Kura? How did you get here so quickly?"9

"I was watching you. You are still so weak on your emotions. You hate to disappoint those you are related to. Get over it."10

"I'm trying to. It's not that easy, bro."11

"As long as you're trying." Bakura walks up closer to Akari and Marik. "Mar, Get her home. She's about to have a meltdown."12

"What? Akari? Why?" Marik said confused.13

"I'll answer that. Akari growing up was attached mostly to our father. Our father was very kind to her, but once he found out that Akari was going out with You, Mar, he took a disliking to her and was no longer as close as he used to be. He started ignoring her, and paying no attention to what she was saying. Soon Akari gave up trying to talk to our father."14

"What about your mother?"15

"Almost the exact same thing," Bakura said.16

"So both her parents hated her after that?"17

"Yup."18

"Bakura, why don't you spend the rest of the day with us. You can help us look for things for the wedding."19

"You don't want me to help you, Akari. I wouldn't be good for that type of thing." 20

"Pleeeaase, Bakura. You would be so much help right now."21

Akari gave him her old puppy dog eyes, and unfortunately it didn't work on him anymore. "That doesn't work, but seeing as you asked nicely I will help you."22

"Thanks."23

"Now what are you looking for?"
