Those Three Words

I walk up to him.1

This is probably the hardest moment of my life.2

As a child, I kept thinking love was a fairy tale.3

But now, with him right there in front of me, I realize it’s not.4

I realize love is much harder than that.5

This whole thing is nerve-racking. How can I say those three words to him? How can I look into his eyes and tell him the truth?6

I take a deep breath, but it doesn’t help much.7

My heart beats faster than it has before.8

I sigh and say those words.9

“I love you.”10

I gulp, wondering what he’s about to say. Will he love me in return? Or will he reject me? If he doesn’t like me like that, will it ruin our friendship? There are so many thoughts that go through my head at this moment. I think I’m going to cry.11

He stands there for a moment, saying nothing.12

A tear falls from my eye and I walk away.13

I wonder what he will say when we see each other again.
