Varun - Chapter 41

1

Varun sped up as fast as the motorbike would allow him, glancing up at the helicopter just once. No one was firing at him from there. They were just police officers most likely. If any Fire Cons or corrupt Fins were in their they would take their chances and kill him off, he was sure. At least that was sorted for the moment.2

The people in the third car saw him and the Fire Con said to the corrupt Fin, “Take him out.”3

“Right,” the Fin nodded and he looked on the backseat for a gun. Eventually he found a rifle and so opened the window and leaned out a little, gun pointed. It was a Heckler & Koch MP7 A1 meaning it was a compact yet powerful gun with high velocity rounds and could go through Kevlar like paper! 4

“This will tear that tyre like air,” the man chuckled as he set his aim on the tyre.5

Varun saw the end of the gun and swerved aside to the right, behind the vehicle just out of the man’s view.6

“Dammit,” he cursed, looking to the right to catch him come up the other side.7

Varun had stuck behind the vehicle and saw the gun move away from its aim and he saw the dark figure look to the right, leaning towards the driver. Varun slammed down on the accelerator and appeared to the left side again. Before the Fin could turn, Varun had grabbed the nozzle of the gun and carried on speeding. The force of the speed he was going at forced the Fin to release the gun. Varun sped up and around the front as the second car, the one in front of him started to slow a little. A woman was looking out of the window before turning her attention to something in the car. She was obviously getting a weapon ready.8

Varun turned his motorbike to the side as he got in front of the third car and he jumped, kicking his feet forward. He hit the window and the windscreen smashed, shattering inwards. It hurt Varun’s legs but he bore it. He felt the skin on his right leg cut and the trouser of his left leg catch. Then the car hit the motorbike, throwing them off course so the Fire Con was busy trying to get control of the car again as the Fin got a Glock and fired at Varun, just missing him as Varun dodged it by turning his body in time. When he had control of the car, the Fire Con had to concentrate on driving and he headed right for the second car in front. They would get a good shot at him that way.9

Varun grabbed hold of the gun and shoved downwards, slamming his foot into the Fin’s face before slipping inside. The Fire Con driving punched Varun but Varun grabbed a shard of glass and slammed it into the driver’s cheek. The driver screamed but then Varun smacked them both hard around the head, knocking them out. The car began to swerve aside into the right lane where a car was coming the other way. Varun hissed, suddenly hearing a gunshot and the head restraint was pierced just by his ear. He ducked as best as he could, yanking the unconscious driver as well as he could while cursing then grabbed hold of the steering wheel when he had room. The driver was leaning on the accelerator with his foot still and seeing as he was quite a deadweight the car kept accelerating.10

Varun swerved to the left back into his lane only to get fired at. He knew he was lucky to avoid it. The woman had a powerful and accurate gun. A Model 500 revolver, standard compensator. However they were in a moving vehicle so her aim was a little off. Still she was too good and wasn’t off by much at all! The car kept on accelerating and Varun knew he was near bumping the car in front. The woman had a better chance of hitting him now. She climbed out of the window and sat on the edge, resting her arms on the top of the car and aiming. She fired just as Varun managed to swerve, meaning her bullet skimmed the frame of the car and continued on.11

As soon as the car coming the other way had passed he swerved back out into the right hand lane, just catching the right hand rear light of the car in front and he rammed the car in the side. The driver fumbled with the steering wheel, trying to get a weapon while the woman slid back into the car and fired by aiming from in front of the driver. Varun braked just before she fired so she completely missed, aggravating her. She then climbed out the door window again and began firing repeatedly. It kept hitting the roof and bonnet of the car, even catching Varun on the arm but he managed to keep going. Talk about cheating death!12

Suddenly the car was hit in the tyre and he lost control of the car for a moment. He gritted his teeth. He knew he had to be hit sometime or another. There was only him and many of them and he could hardly move in the car. Controlling it was a hard enough job!13

He managed to pick up the pace of the car and rammed into the car again. The enemy car swerved and the woman almost fell out but she clung on. Varun rammed again as he came towards the front of the car, forcing the nose of the car aside so that it crashed into the line of hedges on the country road. The woman screamed, dropping the gun and was thrown out of the car as they hit the hedges. Varun’s own car slammed into the hedges also, forcing him to be flung forward and smacking his face against the dashboard. He felt his forehead hit broken glass and his forehead was cut open a little. When he sat up he felt blood trickling down to his nose then either side to his lips. Wonderful. However, he managed to get out and ran to car the woman had been in.14

In the distance he heard a screech of tyres and then an engine revving before a car started accelerating. It was the lead car. The helicopter was going after Vixen while the car was coming back for him. He could hear over the radio men saying how he had murdered some officers. Should they take him down? What about the murderer getting away? How blind they were!15

He headed for the other car as it was perfectly intact. It had just bumped the hedges and had actually given the vehicle some support. He wiped the blood from his face before wrenching the driver’s side open. The man was dead inside, having hit the windscreen and smashed his head in. The glass had completely shattered on his side and looked like a cobweb design.16

A scream surprised him and it was the woman. She’d smacked her head from falling as she had blood in her hair. She came at him in a rage, fighting him with hand to hand combat. Varun wrestled with her and managed to slam her against the side of the car but she burned his hands with fire magic when he had held her wrists together. He stepped back to get his hands free from pain only to be kicked in the knee, causing him to stumble. The woman then dived for the revolver she had dropped that was on the other side of the car and came up from behind it to fire at Varun. However he wasn’t in sight. There was only the lead car coming down.17

“Wh…” she began but then saw something move from the right of her. She was too late though as Varun suddenly tackled her to the ground. They struggled but the woman managed to get away. Varun stood up but then heard the screech of tyres and the lead car rammed into the second car which Varun was behind. The second car tipped over as it left the ground for a moment and crashed into Varun, knocking him down and landing on him before it rolled over and off of him. The weight of the car bruised him all over and hurt his left arm from when he’d defended his head.18

He turned over onto his stomach only to get the woman kicking him under the jaw, throwing him backwards. She was unbelievably strong! He looked up at her and saw her eyes glimmer an inhumane colour. They turned from light brown to red with yellow markings, he was sure, before fading again, a smirk on her face.19

She stamped on his stomach as soon as he had landed on his back. Such strength, it even made him throw up onto the ground. What on earth…?20

The accelerator. He heard it. The car sped up and he managed to get to his knees but the car was so close that it only took a second. The car hit him, knocking him down but he managed to roll aside as the car aimed to run him over. The car went on before turning around and began to rev.21

Meanwhile the woman walked up to Varun and grabbed him around the throat, squeezing. He felt himself unable to breathe and his lungs desperately tried to work but nothing got in. His head began to feel tight and hot, his chest beginning to hurt. The car was revving. The woman was smirking.22

He then grabbed her wrist and slammed her arm from under the elbow, snapping her arm the other way. She screamed as he let go and her arm dangled helplessly. She stumbled back, gripping her arm in agony and she fired an electric bolt at him. It hit him and stopped his heart a moment but when it passed only his clothes was burned in places with a hole here and there. Then she cast fire magic and he ran around her as she fired frantically, trying to hit him while trying to ignore the agony of her arm that was making black spots appear in her vision.23

Suddenly Varun leaped back as she continued round and fired in a completely different spot where she had expected him to have been next and he was already at her before she could fire again. He grabbed her around the throat this time and squeezed, then punching her across the face. She cried out before throwing her to the ground and hitting her in the neck, knocking her out. He didn’t feel like killing any more people. He really disliked it. Wait…he would have killed if he had to. Why couldn’t he kill her now? It would be a simple breaking of the neck…24

Before he could wonder more, he heard the car accelerating and he looked just in time to see the car reaching him and it hit him again. The woman was run over in the process, killing her instantly. Varun grabbed hold of the window wipers as soon as his feet left the ground and, as the car was still moving, it came under his body that had been knocked right up into the air. He kept his grip on the window wipers however that threatened to pull right off their joints until gravity took hold of his body again and he hit the bonnet hard.25

The men in the car stared at him, then one tried to lean out the window like the woman had done in order to shoot him. However, Varun was prepared for him and he moved the best he could to the window the man was coming out of. The gun was pointed straight at him but Varun swung his body so that he could kick up and he kicked the man in the wrist, knocking the gun from his hand onto the roof of the car. The driver slammed on the brakes to throw Varun off but Varun held on. If he let go, the man would just run him over straight away.26

The driver changed straight to first and sped forward again down the road towards where Toushirou and the others had headed down and the gun on the roof slid backward with the speed. The Fin leaning out of the window reached for the gun and managed to grab hold of the nozzle when Varun had yanked himself right up and wrapped his arm around the man’s neck and squeezed. The Fin was surprised and tried to hit Varun in the head with the gun seeing as he was holding the nose of the weapon. However, as the man was suffocating, he was weak, so Varun just grabbed hold of the grip the third time it struck his head and elbowed the Fin off the car door and onto the road. 27

Then he hooked one leg inside and shot the driver straight away without hesitation. The driver hadn’t believed that Varun would shoot him so recklessly so hadn’t tried to kill him in that moment. 28

When the driver slumped in his seat the car swerved. Varun managed to get inside and he grabbed the steering wheel, pulling the car into control again as he fumbled with the seatbelt of the driver with his free hand. Once it was unclipped, he opened the car door and kicked the dead driver out before sitting down himself, pulling the door shut. Now for his allies.29

“Go go go!” Toushirou and Charles called in unison as Vixen gripped the steering wheel, slamming her foot down on the accelerator. The helicopter had dropped low and was following right behind her. They couldn’t slow down now or they’d be caught.31

“Look! A sign for a tunnel!” Skylar cried, “Up ahead on the right!”32

“What?” Vixen glanced in time to spot the sign. It was sign for a bridge ahead, but then behind it was a sign for a tunnel. It wasn’t for cars to go in but it was big enough. Vixen had recalled seeing it before.33

“Hold on!” she called to the three in the car with her. If she was right, the tunnel would lead them to a quicker and more hidden way to get back to Tanya and Kirsten and her beloved.34

As soon as they were near the bridge, the last bit of land dropped into a slope, then there was a sharp right around a small rock face to where the tunnel was. Vixen slammed on the brakes and skidded around the corner, tires threatening to slip off the edge of the cliff to the river below, but then sped off to the tunnel. Skylar clung to the seat, a whine escaping her as Vixen screamed a battle cry while Charles and Toushirou held their breath. The tunnel was low and dark and dangerous.35

“Holy craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap!” Toushirou cried and ducked. The helicopter zoomed right behind them then suddenly slowed, rearing up a little to stop itself as the car hit the tunnel. The room scraped and the passenger wing mirror was almost ripped right off. Vixen flicked on the lights and saw the ground was rocky and uneven, giving the tyres a lot of hard work.36

Vixen gritted her teeth as she felt the steering wheel trying to break free from her grip and she prayed and prayed they would make it through this. Skylar kept her head down, hands on the top of her cap, mumbling her pleas to herself. Charles just watched along with Vixen with a concerned expression. Even HE was worried.37

However, light soon pricked up ahead and Vixen dared hold out hope.38

Just a little more.39

Just a little further!40

They broke free into the light! They were in a forest and the car came straight onto a well trodden path that lead onto a small country road. Vixen turned the car to the left and drove on, taking deep breaths.41

The group were all stunned, inhaling and exhaling slowly, then suddenly the people in the car burst into cheer, with Charles giving Vixen a pat on the back.42

“Holy cow, woman!” Charles laughed, “If I need a quick getaway I know who I’d choose to drive!”43

Vixen nodded with a relieved smile on her face, “Yeah, thanks.”44

* * *45

Varun could hear the helicopter and up ahead he had just seen a car disappear into the tunnel far in the distance. His car was newer and faster than Vixen’s, so it had caught up pretty quick, but he still had a while to go to reach the helicopter.46

The men in the helicopter were considering what to do, looking at the maps they had and were discussing their route. The trees would cover the car well and they couldn’t get low enough to catch up to them. They’d have to guess where they were going to come out. That would be a difficult job.47

“Let’s just go check it out,” one man said, and the pilot nodded. Just as they had finished speaking, however, the radio crackled and a man was speaking on the other end.48

“What is the current situation?” he asked.49

The pilot picked up the radio transmitter and spoke into it, “The suspect and her allies have gotten away in a vehicle.”50

“How could you lose a car?! What about the other three cars with you?” the man asked, obviously angered by the news.51

“I’m afraid we don’t know. It’s unconfirmed whether they are okay or not. It looks like they stayed behind to deal with this Varun character,” the pilot replied, getting nervous.52

The man on the other end cursed and spoke, “Right! When you see the car, shoot on sight!”53

“Sir?” the pilot asked hesitantly as the police officers became confused and even more nervous than before.54

“I said shoot on sight! I repeat SHOOT ON SIGHT!”55

“Yes sir!” the pilot called and looked back at them, “You heard him. Shoot on sight.”56

The police officers either pursed their lips or shook their heads as they got their guns ready.57

“Must be a real nasty piece of work, that woman,” one of the men sighed and the others laughed.58

Just as they began to raise the helicopter one of the police officers glanced out of the window, then cried, “WHAT THE HELL!”59

Varun was coming up full pelt and he flung the window open. He’d heard over the radio in the car. They were sharing the same frequency and it was open still. There was no way they were going to escape. 60

He turned the car off the road and headed straight for the helicopter that was still rising. Ten, Varun glanced at the speedometer, nine, the helicopter was coming level with him, eight, seven, six, five, he opened the car door, four, the helicopter was a little higher than ground level, three, the car sped up a small incline, two, Varun threw himself out the car, one…61

The car sped up into the air and crashed straight into the helicopter. The helicopter had tried to avoid it but it was too slow to swerve and the vehicle caused the helicopter to explode. Debris fired from the centre of it before gravity took hold and pulled the helicopter and car down towards the river, smoke billowing up into the sky as it went.62

Varun hit the ground and rolled before laying flat on his back, panting wildly. That was lucky. VERY lucky.63

He tried to move but it hurt just a little too much so he laid there for a little longer to catch his breath. Now came the next task. To get back despite being on foot, with no nearby car, no nearby town and injured. 64

Author notes

Okay hopefully this is the last chapter with such action in it. Now to get Varun safely to the others O.o HAHAHAHA! The guy seriously has no luck XDDD

lmao as you are odd to us

A bonnet is what I think you call the hood. As we call the boot of a car what you call the trunk

And thank you very much for your comment! So greatly appreciated

Oooh, good chapter and nice action! I'm glad Vixen had some courage

I just have a couple of suggestions

    1. tyre=tire
    2. Wouldn't a car toppling on him be a little much, even for Varun? It might work better if he broke a bone or something, just to make it a little more believable.
    3. You might want to keep your tone - '!' at the end of sentences make it a little too light for what you wrote before.

Anyways, tons of action - awesome! I love your fight scenes - they go quickly enough that they aren't boring, but aren't so undescriptive that you have no clue what is going on.

Vixen was awesome in this chapter! Nice writing.

*bites nails* I can't wait to read the next chapter! Such suspense!

    Good luck and keep writing

thank you so much! I was struggling to remember which 'tire' the word was. I was like 'y or i? uh...' XD I needed that! Thanks!

I'll see about the car thing and the exclamation marks XD I was thinking that myself about the car. I'd stopped writing the chapter just after that and I was thinking, "A car...rolling on him...and he's ok? Hm..." I'm glad you pointed that out

And yeah I wanted to give Vixen a better role. She's always been a bit of a side character but I thought driving could be a good skill of hers seeing as she's not a fighter/killer person.

I'll try to edit and get the next chapter done soon! Thanks again! I really appreciate your comments.
