My eyes opened, the light blue sky greeting me to an unfamiliar place. I eased myself up, wincing as I realized the throbbing on the side of my head. I reached up to inspect the damage, wincing again at the touch. The hot liquid that was still flowing was sticky at the touch. I looked at my fingers; they were covered in dark red. Blood.1
Glancing around, I squinted, trying to make out the scenery. The dark green leaves of the oak trees to my right danced shadows on the ground with the wind. The lush green grass felt soft underneath me, and I stared at the ground taking in the flowers, and blood splatters all around. But, nothing seemed familiar. 2
'Where am I?' I thought, my feet fumbling to find balance. I swayed a bit, trying to stand up straight, but everything wouldn't stop spinning. 3
"Are- Are you okay?" I heard a female voice from behind me. I spun around to see who it was. Not a good idea. Everything was spinning again. The girl gasped. I probably looked worse than I felt and I felt pretty bad. "What happened? We need to get you to the hospital. What's your name?" she said in what seemed like only one breath, not letting me answer. I squinted my eyes, trying to take her in, but I couldn't focus. 4
"I- I don't know." I said, trying hard to concentrate.5
"You don't know your name?"6
"Yes. I mean, no. No, I don't know.... who I am. I-I don't know what happened. And I...I have no idea where I am."7
She grabbed my arm. "We need to get you to the hospital. Quick!" She dragged me a few yards before I planted my feet to the ground. She whirled around at the sudden halt, almost bumping into me. 8
I shook my head. The dizziness was getting too much. "Who am I?" 9
"I can't answer that. I don't know." She sounded remorseful, looked at me like she pitied me. Anger rose in me; I needed answers, not pity. I didn't need her to feel sorry for me, I needed her to help me find out who I was! I broke my arm away from her grasp. Her jaw dropped, eyes wide. 10
We stood there in silence. She composed herself while I continued to glare. She sighed. “Look,” She held out her hands in front of her, almost like she was surrendering. “You need to get yourself looked at. Maybe the doctors will be able to tell you who you are. You know, DNA tests and all that.”11
I nodded; easing out of the defensive stance I hadn’t known I was in until I moved. She moved closer, holding out one of her hands for me to take. “Let me take you to get help. Please.”12
I nodded again, grabbing her hand. "So, who are you?"13
She looked at me and smiled. "Elizabeth."14
We got to the hospital. It looked familiar even though I'd never been there. Or at least I thought I hadn't.15
"Dr, Hughes! What in heaven's name happened to you?!" A short, plump woman asked running up to me from behind the information desk. I had no idea who this woman was. And who was Dr. Hughes? Me? I was a doctor? That couldn't be right.16
The woman's long red hair bobbed with every step she took. The ringlets fell nicely around her face. That's when I realized my focus was back. I had been staring out the window the entire ride over. "Didn't you used to where glasses?" she asked.17
"Ah-" Elizabeth tried to speak, but was interrupted by the red head. Elizabeth's short brown hair was pulled back in clips. She was beautiful.18
"You've got a pretty nasty cut there, Dr. Hughes. We should have that looked at." She came around behind me, and pushed me forward. 19
"Bu-" I tried to choke out, but the woman interrupted me.20
"Now, now Dr. Hughes. I know that you could do this yourself, but you're here anyway. Besides you're off duty! How's your wife Becky doing?"21
"My-my wife?" I asked.22
"What in heaven's name is wrong with you, Hughe? You're actin' like you've lost your mind!" The woman examined my expression.23
"Well, he did lose something." Elizabeth piped up. The red head turned to look at her.24
"What are you talkin' about?" 25
Elizabeth looked pained, like she was going to be reprimanded for her next answer. "Well...."26
"Spit it out, child!" The red head getting aggitated making Elizabeth jump back. The red head tapped her foot, waiting her to reply. 27
"He's lost his memory." Elizabeth replied in a rush.28
"WHAT?!"

I like how this going. I hope you continue with this. I think you could use more development with the characters and their actions--it seems quite rushed. Unfortunately, you don't meat the word limit for my contest, but I thought I'd read and comment anyways. Thanks for entering!
