Why can't we choose who we fall in love with?1

Why do some people believe in science and some religion and/or magic?2

Why with the astronomical number of stars and planets in this universe don't people accept the statistical possibility that we are not alone?

Against arranged marriages... Very correct. But I feel there's a difference between falling in love with a person and spending the rest of the life with him/her. For instance, when we are in love we don't generally see with unbiased eyes at the lover. So some of the differences of opinions, or absence of certain required qualities, we may ignore. But after years of living, the same things we ignored can very well end our marriage. So we need a third person perspective to make a 'commitment' that will last for ever. And, I believe that given enough time, we can love or hate anybody, unless he/she is absolutely lovable or hate-able. Just my pov.

Very true! I personally believe that you need to be friends with the person you marry more than lovers. It is the only way one can live with someone else without wanting to kill them eventually. And it's very, very true that you need a third person's perspective (I should have listened to my best friend about a previous boyfriend). Though I wasn't thinking about arranged marriages in general (I was thinking about my last relationship, homosexuals, and people in general who fall in love with the wrong people or with people they want but can't have) you bring up a good point, because even those in arranged marriages sometimes wind up falling in love whether they chose their spouse or not (I know two such examples). Love, in all its forms, takes work. That much is certain.

Thanks for provoking so much more thought in me!
