Abandonment, Chapter 6

Akari sat in a chair at Marik's desk looking at a magazine on the top. She was flipping through the first few pages, when she felt lips on her neck and she quickly closed her eyes in pleasure. He knew how much she liked that feeling.1

"When did you wake up?" He purred.2

Akari shivered, feeling his warm breath on her cheek. Marik smirked. "Are you going to answer, or am I going to have to trick the answer out of you."3

"A few hours ago," She breathed uneasily.4

"That's my girl. It's always good when you answer me."5

"I know."6

Turning the chair around so Akari was facing him, he pulled her to her feet, then pulled her into an embrace.7

"You looked so peaceful, sleeping there. I didn't want to wake you," Akari said, ruefully.8

"Do you think I would care if you woke me up or not?" He asked, smiling down at her.9

"No, you probably wouldn't. How long was I asleep for."10

Marik had to think for a moment. It was two o'clock when he brought her to her room; she fell asleep almost instantly. Made a few calls to the remaining places that were available for the wedding, booked a church, and then fell asleep himself. Glancing at the clock to check what time it was; Eight o'clock.11

"Six hours."12

"Have you had anything to eat since lunch?"13

Marik looked at her, " Are you hungry? It would make sense. All you had, according to you, was a bowl of cereal."14

"You could say I'm a tad bit hungry. But what about you?"15

"I'll eat whatever you plan to make."16

"Fortunately, I had dinner planned out since this morning."17

"Oh really? May I ask what's on the menu?" He responded.18

"Marinated steak with mashed potatoes and a variety of veggies."19

"A variety? You mean like a bunch of veggies mixed together, I suppose."20

"Yeah, pretty much."21

"Ah," He said. "So, how long will it take?"22

"Half hour... Forty-five minutes."23

"Well, you better get going if we're going to eat anytime tonight."24

"You got it." Marik released her so she could get their dinner ready and he turned back to his desk. She had been looking at a weapon magazine he had placed on his desk to look at later. Reviewing the section she was on, he smiled. Of course she was looking at the sword section. As if her fascination could be anything less than remarkable.25

"Same old fascination with swords of course." He said, coming into the kitchen.26

"Huh? What?"27

Marik chuckled. "The magazine you were looking at. In my room."28

Akari blushed very slightly, and turned back to the stove. She had just put the mixed veggies into a pot and was trying to get them to the point of boiling. Marik was watching from the other side of the room, sitting in a kitchen chair. Akari was thinking about the wedding when she remembered Marik was looking at the papers for places that were still possibly available. She turned to him, "Have you found a place for the wedding yet, Mar-mar?"29

Marik smiled calmly. "Yes, but you're not going to like where it is."30

Akari quickly looked over at him, "It's not in a church, is it?"31

"Let me think about my answer for a minute. Yes. But, I promise it won't be that bad, and I also promise that you will live through it." 32

"Mar-mar, you know how I hate churches," She complained. "Why does it have to be in a church?"33

"Didn't we agree that I would choose where the wedding was to be held and you would choose where our honeymoon was going to be?" He said quickly.34

"Well, yes, but..." She said with a frown on her face. "I just don't like churches."35

"You'll live through it, I promise. Now I think you should focus on the food on the stove. It's starting to boil." 36

Akari turned to the stove and stirred the veggies for a minute, and checked the oven as well, before turning back to her fiancee.37

They watched each other for a few minutes, and then Marik gestured for her to sit on his lap so that he could explain. But before he could she talked first.38

"I'll follow through with the wedding in the church, I just hope you don't invite my parents."39

"It'll be a quick wedding, barely any people, if you want. Or, it can be a secret wedding."40

Akari turned her head to the side, as if not understanding. Marik couldn't help but smile. "I mean, we can get married and not even tell anybody. Secret. You know what I mean."41

"I like that idea. No one at the wedding. We especially don't need my brother to know. You know he doesn't approve of you."42

"He'll get over himself. That's the one person who does need to be at the wedding. Bakura would never forgive you if you don't invite him."43

"He'll start a fight with you at the wedding. He'll glower at me the whole time. And he'll glare at you."44

"That's why you're going to tell him, not me."45

"What! You're going to leave me to do that!"46

"Mhm. He'll take it a lot better from you than he will me." 47

The buzzer for the food rang, and Akari ran to the stove and oven and brought the food to the table. They ate in silence, Marik looking up at her every few minutes. He could tell she was thinking of how to bring it up to her brother. Akari was right, her brother didn't like him. So it was up to her to talk calmly to her brother and get it accepted. Bakura was the only blood relative she had left that actually cared for her. And he was sure that if he saw that Akari truely wanted this for herself, he would give in. If it made Akari happy, he would be happy.48

They soon finished and and put their plates in the dish washer and went to bed, but not before kissing each other goodnight. Akari went into her room and went to the phone to call her brother. The phone rang twice before being picked up.49

"Hello?" Bakura answered.50

"Hi bro, can we possibly hang out tomorrow?"51

"What for? Are you hurt or in trouble?"52

"No. I just need to talk to you about something that's all."53

"About?"54

"Me and Mariku."55

"Akari I know you're living with him, because our parents found out that you were together with him, and they kicked you out. So if that's why you were calling for then-"56

"That's not it... How do I explain this. We're getting married and I wanted you at the wedding. Will you please come?"57

Akari could hear swearing on the other end being said so fast that not even she could catch the individual swear words being said, andn it also sounded like it was in many different languages. 58

"Bakura, you still there?"59

"When did he propose?"60

"Three weeks ago? Why?"61

"Just wondering. Where is the wedding going to be held?"62

"At a church, downtown. Can you make it?"63

"Umm...Akari, Why are you having it in a church. I thought you hated churches?"64

"I do. But I'll live through it."65

"Then I guess I'll see you at the wedding. Congrats, sis."66

"Thanks."67

They both hung up the phone and Akari went to bed.
