Has anyone else been irritated by the incorrect conjugations of "to have" floating around in our society (especially in the media) today?1
I got a solution for this problem:2
"Got milk?" would thus become "Have milk?" or "Did you get milk?"3
"You've got mail" would become "You have mail" or "You got mail." or even "You've gotten mail." Although, I think it'd sound really great if it simply said "You've received mail."4
I just stumbled across one on the Paypal website that has a prefilled email form that you can send to your payment recipient. They have suggested that the subject line should read, "You've got a payment."5
How about, "You have a payment, you've received a payment, or you've gotten a payment?" 6
even "I've shown you the money" would be better than their option.7
Incorrect grammar should not be tolerated from multi-billion dollar corporations like Paypal, AOL, and the California Milk Processor Board. They're degrading the American media, as if it wasn't bad enough already.8
Otherwise, you lead to Thornton's posting signs saying "We Got Milk," and I know I live in Kentucky, but that's just wrong by even layman's standards. 9
Leave it to the Southern Baptists to start "Got Jesus?" 10
--I'm sorry to break it to you, but I think Jesus has already been had.11
George Bush thinks "We've got a lot of relations with countries in our neighborhood."12
We've got a lot more problems than that. Do I even need to start with that tangent of grammatical atrocities who plays at being a government official? Or is he a government official playing at being a grammatical atrocity? The latter is darker, I like it. I prefer to think of him as an evil mastermind disguising himself as the village idiot rather than admit that we really elected an idiot two terms in a row.13
One thing's for certain; I got ire.

I agree with Major Tom, going political at the end doesn't do the rest justice. W using "got" incorrectly isn't just part of the endemic; there are plenty of things that are wrong with the way he speaks in general. Stick with the direction of the previous 3/4 of the rant that "you got" and you'll be fine.

hehe. couldn't resist an opportunity to poke fun at ol' dubya. That's a great point, though, I'll have to think of a more concise way to wrap this up.

Now this is great......
...I really get it!! (Sorry, just couldn't resist that.) My own view, expressed with fire (as well as the aforesaid ire) and great verve. of course, there are plenty of grammatical inexactitudes you could direct your fire at, or should that be, "at which you could direct your fire"? My own particular hates are the introduction of non-words into the vocabulary (can anyone define "pro-active" for example? or "obligated"; there's a George Bushism!) and the insistence on using "less" when it should be "fewer", and perhaps, worst of all, sentences which make less sense than the idea of George W becoming goodwill ambassador to Iraq. I actually received a letter from my bank which said, and I quote, "Since we have uplifted our nominal percentage charges in conjunction with our new product negotiable variants on the commencement of the above new format." That was it. When i took it along to ask exactly what it meant, the manager looked at me as if I was the one who didn't understand the English language, so I asked him to read it just as it was written. It may not always be judicial to embarrass bank managers, but it certainly pays dividends when you find that their superiors can at least form sentences; this particular specimen was sent to another branch as a junior trainee; i ws offered the job of checking circulars for similar blunders in grammar and clear English, but the salary was too miniscule. It all goes to show that we give far too little value to one of our greatest assets1

Pretty bitter. Well written, though. I found myself smirking towards the midsection. Shame about that leap to political slant, it kind of debases the piece..
