“Poor girl.” My mom said with tears in her eyes, “Entire family wiped out in one day.”1
“Well, atleast she’s young enough to forget seeing and hearing her family die all of a sudden like that.” My dad said shaking his head.2
“Well, atleast she had one…” Tom mumbled looking out the window.3
“And now both of you have us as your family, it’s a shame Derrick isn’t here though. I wonder what he’s up to.” Mom said.4
“By the way, I heard you guys saying you didn’t think you ever heard him left, how is that?” Said Ashley, my twin of course.5
“We still don’t know, maybe the part of the note about the trip south was a…” Mom looked at Dad really fast, “Oh honey! You don’t suppose he was playing around, because it is just now getting to winter?!”6
“I don’t know, but there were still tons of people, even if he was playing around I’m sure he got a ride the second he realized we may have left. Trust me honey he’s a smart kid he’ll see the mess we left.” My dad reassured her.7
“Even if he was kidding, why did he take all of his swords and shields, and since we all been home for the past couple of days how did he get them all out with none of us noticing.” I said.8
“Maybe he did last night while we are all asleep, the only thing that I’m questioning, is the fact that he somehow got a ride in the middle of the night.” My dad pondered.9
“Well, that’s easy dad, all he would need is a alcoholic friend to come and pick him up at midnight. Besides, he might have snuck his stuff out a long time ago, its not like we go down there at all.” I stated.10
“True, although why did he put the note on his computer instead of on the door, or more importantly why didn’t he just tell us?” My mom said.11
“Well, the only way we will ever find out is if he tells us. The real question is why these creatures are here, and how.” My sister broke in.12
“Lets turn on the radio, maybe there will be something on telling us.” My dad said, as he was fingering the dials. It took a while but he finally found somebody yelling.13
“Their coming! Fall back, fall back and block that door! No they are coming in! God save us!” Gun shots followed and screams as they heard people dying on the radio. My dad was about to change it when it went to static and another man came back on. “Again, that was a clip from the army base in North Dakota we are receiving word that these creatures are coming from four portals on two sides and the middle of each of the seven continents of the world. The government has already claimed that they have constantly bombed the portals but they haven’t taken any damage at all. And now folks we are going to a man that is traveling south from the very same base. Mr. Wilson can you hear us?” A man frantically started yelling on the radio. “Yes, Its hell man, they are all dying. Those bastard creatures! There are so many of them we can’t do anything, they just keep coming and coming and coming! The base was overrun because they ran out of ammunition and all equipment, the creatures are too fast, and it takes several bullets to kill one! Now they are going south again. God help us!” The radio switched back to the host. “We are being informed that over all, over twelve billion creatures have arrived on earth. The military force of each continent is replying and are setting up defenses, but at this moment the creatures continue to constantly pile out of the portals. The president is ordering evacuation to Kansas city, Kansas and Missouri. They are setting up defenses there and if the creatures get through the defenses in Texas and South Dakota they will be there to offer some help. People are requested to bring all weapons and supplies they can find. Now at this current moment we are now moving out as well. There are going to be lots of stations around in that area, you should be able to find them, they will be run with satellites. Good day to you, and God save us all!” 14
I was staring at the radio when all of a sudden dad slammed on the brakes. “What the…” I yelled until I looked up. There was a man holding a gun to a lady in the middle of the road. He was screaming for us to get out of the vehicle, and suddenly three other guys run up and point guns at us from all sides. We grabbed what little stuff we had and hopped out trying to make sure they didn’t see our stuff. They jumped in and drove off leaving the other girl behind. 15
I heard Tom gasp as he ran over to the girl he must recognize, which he probably did as she was beautiful. “Samantha! Hey, are you okay?”16
In tears the girl responded, “Yes, sorry about your car.”17
“Ah, no its fine. it’s not your fault at all.” Tom said.18
“Oh please Tom, we don’t need your sentimental blabbering. We no longer have a car, and I seriously doubt anybody has any clue where we are. I don’t think it could be any worse.” My sister breathed out. I half expected the cloudy sky to start raining but it didn’t so I just released that thought and hoped it wouldn’t happen.19
“What are you so worried about. I DO know where we are, we just have to follow this road and we will get to Kansas City. Unfortunately, it is more than a hundred miles away. Hopefully we can get a ride in the next town. By the way Samantha, where is your family?” My dad said as it thundered.20
“Dead, I went to go use the restroom and when I came back they were all laying on the ground dead and the car was gone. I started walking and then those guys grabbed me and we’ve been walking by the road for hours.” She sobbed out.21
“On second thought, maybe we shouldn’t go into any towns.” Mom said. Unfortunately just as she says this it starts pouring.22
“Well we have to now. Or else we will all get sick and won’t get anywhere.” My dad stated as we started walking. Tom picked up little Erica and I picked up the other little girl while Dad picked up the luggage. We knew it was going to be a long walk, but we knew we were going to have to make it. It’s funny though, yet another person to accompany us. Well, a hundred miles to go and its raining and getting dark. This is going to suck.23
