"I was young and stupid," My mother told me. "But that doesn't mean you should do it too." My mom caught me drinking. I slouched in my seat at the table. I had my arms crossed. I rolled my eyes. "Whatever," I said quietly. "I'm gonna start drinking anyway." My mom gave me a look. "That doesn't work on me anymore, Mom!" I hated that look. It used to work on me when I was like three, but not anymore. 1
She sighed and waved her hand, telling me I could go. I stood and walked to my room. I slammed the door behind me and laid down on my bed. "Hate her," I muttered under my breath. I heard my mom walk by my door. She stopped for a moment in front of it. I prayed she wouldn't knock. I felt relief wash over me as she left. Sometimes she can over react a little. I had one drink. One sip from my friend's glass and she flips out!2
I don't remember when I fell asleep. I opened my eyes to the alarm. *Time to get up,* I thought. *Joy.* I slipped out of my bed and threw on my baggy sweater and jeans. I brushed my hair and teeth then put on some eyeliner. Then I left for school. 3
My grades have been slipping ever since I moved from Whitehorse to Moncton. I used to have a 95 average. Now I'm barely passing all my classes. I still do better than my friends. My girlfriend, Casey, is failing with a 25 in english and math. And she has one of the better grades. But grades don't matter to me, only what happens now.4
I met up with Casey and Chandler on Main.St. I hugged my girlfriend and kissed her cheek. Chandler was always weirded out by us. I said it was just what I liked. Casey whispered in my ear a secret. "I wish I could be with you," She said.5
"You are," I answered, not understanding what she meant.6
"No, I mean WITH you." I finally got it. I looked at her, happiness and anxiety in my eyes. I never noticed until now how her's sparkled when she really wanted something. "Tonight," I said. "Your house."
