A Love in Winter

It was a long and cold November
A day I will always remember
And the time was slowly drifting into December1

I was up in the choir lofts singing my praises to the Lord
When I suddenly couldn’t say a word
My eyes looked on her and I fell into elation
Even when the priest performed the Elevation
And the bread and wine became God2

Chorus:
It was a love in winter, a long forgotten winter
Don't you know I’ve really missed her?
She was my love in winter, a long forgotten winter
Don't you know I can’t forget her?3

I couldn’t stop looking at her beautiful eyes
Even though I’d seen them so many times
There she would go, dressed up like a lovely day
A rose made me drown clothed in her Sunday gown4

I kept turning my head to see what she was all about
I kept turning my head to see if I could spit it out
But never at all came a single word
So on my knees I would go praying
Wishing I could have spoken up5

I drifted into a dream as I was sleeping
And I found the girl I loved weeping
Then I knew for sure she was worth keeping
Because she told me the reason for her crying
Was that all the grace in the world was dying6

Chorus:
It was a love in winter, a long forgotten winter
Don't you know I’ve really missed her?
She was my love in winter, a long forgotten winter
Don't you know I can’t forget her?7

On a Sunday morning when the clock struck noon
I knew she was going soon
Out of the blue I started to feel dead
So I started to lament and said
Took a good look at these tears now
Because no matter who, what, why or when
You’re never, never going to see me cry again8

*Guitar solo*9

Bridge:
But one day she came back around
As I was kneeling in the back pew
And drowned out every single sound
It was her, somehow I knew
As I glimpsed the world falling into place
She turned her head and I noticed her face
Sooner or later I’m gonna ask her what’s she all about
I know one day I’m gonna go up to her and spit it out10

Chorus:
It’s like a love in winter, a long forgotten winter
You know I’ve always missed her
I’ll still loving her in the winter, an unforgettable winter
You know I can’t forget her11

This love in winter, it was frozen in the past
Maybe someday she and I will come face-to-face at last
Sooner or later I’m gonna ask her what’s she all about
I know one day I’m gonna go up to her and spit it out

Author notes

This is supposed to be a rock song that reflects its theme - cold and yet warm at the same time. Do you imagine snow, stained glass windows, and sacred tunes echoing off the dome of the church? Then you're not too far off.

Wow, these are really good lyrics. I would so love to hear the tune, especially the guitar solo. I love those!! Great job!

It will probably sound like a crossover of Coldplay's "Violet Hill" and Utada Hikaru's "Sanctuary" because these two songs majorly influenced the writing of this one.

As a matter of fact, I heard the song Sanctuary played backward in a youtube mix called "He was Ansem", about Riku from Kingdom Hearts. That mix actually helped me develop the tune for the chorus.

All right, you. Fess up. These ARE lyrics!
And they're picturesque lyrics, too. The one line that struck me as a little off was "She curved her head". Heads are already curved, yeah I know, lame joke. I think you were describing her turning her head, yes? Maybe "tilted" or "raised" or something, because I'm still picturing you up in the choir lofts when she comes back there.
Otherwise, very nice imagery. I've got stained-glass and sacred tunes and cold snow flowing through my mind now.

Yes, these are song lyrics for my band.

I am glad you are getting the picture. Stained glassed windows, sacred tunes and cold snow - actually perfectly accurate, considering it was all at church.

I suppose you're right - I should changed it to "turned," but I what I meant by curved was she kind of just slighty peeked her head my way so I could see her.

Actually, we weren't in the choir lofts that time, but in the pews when I saw her again after a long time.
