Half-Life: The Story - Prolouge

I am walking off the tram after Barney, the security guard let me off. Today is the day of the big experiment. We are testing a crystal from space. I'm turning to another security guard sitting at a desk, he's telling me I'm late for the experiment. I'm sighing and I'm turning to run. I'm running to the personell facilities. I'm getting to my Hazard Suit, A.K.A. HEV Suit and turning to walk to the test chamber. I've just remembered, today is the last experiment if all goes well then we would have proved how the universe was created. I'm looking at all the scientists who walk past, I am wondering what will become of them when all this is over. I first have to go and get a brief summary of what I'm doing. I'm taking the lift upwards and exiting to the right where some scientists are waiting for me.1

They've just finished briefing me. They explained to me the basic procedure and left me to do the rest myself. It's simple all I have to do is push the test sample into the laser beam, like I do everytime. I'm walking down to the test chamber. I'm laughing now, one of the scientists think somethings going to go wrong, it can't we have this under basic procedure, unless someone mucked up. I'm climbing a ladder and have just pulled a switch to start the beams. All for me to do now is to wait for the test sample and push it in. 2

I have just finished waiting! I am now pushing... in... the... test... sample. Whew! That was heavy. Wait what the-- What's going on I-- Where am I? What are those things? AGH! I've teleported again! ERGH! What are they? I--
