My Beliefs

Some people believe that their religion is the correct one and everyone else is going to hell (or some other such place...) because they're right and there's nothing anyone else can do about it. My belief does not fit into this description. I believe whatever i think is the most logical thing to believe, and that it's right to question things people are telling you...1

I'll start by mentioning a few things from the bible that are a little improbable and why. Take Noah's ark for example. Supposedly a man (Noah) is told by God that all the people, except him and his family, on the Earth are evil and sin every two seconds, and so they must be slaughtered (and don't get on my case about that word, 'cause that's basically what he was saying...). God tells Noah that he must build an ark to escape a flood that God is going to make happen, pile 2 of every animal (except fish of course...), and his family into this ark. So he does, of course, 'cause come on, it was God who told him xD. God then makes it rain for 40 days and 40 nights and so kills everyone besides the things on the ark and cleanses the Earth...This is where the improbability comes in. If it rains for 40 days and 40 nights, wouldn't the clouds block out the sun and change the entire climate of the world? And God is so almighty he can create things out of thin air? Even humans he supposedly blew dust from his nostrils or something dumb...eh...2

I am buddhist because there are not 613 mitzvot ("commandments"), but only 5 simple rules...3

* I undertake the precept of abstaining from destroying living creatures.4

* I undertake the precept of abstaining from taking anything not freely given.5

* I undertake the precept of abstaining from sexual misconduct.6

* I undertake the precept of abstaining from false speech.7

* I undertake the precept of abstaining from taking intoxicants which lead to carelessness.8

Each of these make perfect sense and are easily done (unlike "you shall not lie" and things like that...).9

I was Jewish for most of my life, you must realize, so the "teachings" of the bible are known to me. As a reform Jew, though, I am allowed to question what the bible says. In fact my temple has "Torah Study" every week, where people gather and do exactly that...This is so unlike many churches that it's a little bit scary.10
